“Too bad the hotel is falling apart”
We reserved a room for 2 nights to attend a NW football game. Asked for a non-smoking queen and got 2 full beds. The location was good with a free shuttle to the game that stops right at the door. The staff tried very hard but with a crumbling hotel infrastructure, it is difficult to please. The heat/AC system did not work in our first room, so we moved. The bathroom mirror in the 2nd room had fallen off the wall and crashed onto the floor leaving glass everywhere, so we moved. The 3rd room had a non-working phone and a ceiling leak in the bathroom but we took it because we were so tired of moving. In the morning we discovered that the hair dryer did not work. If you happen to get one of the working rooms your experience will be just fine -- nothing fancy, everything old but clean with comfortable beds and a hard working staff. But unfortunately, there are many rooms with flaws and issues which makes for a stressful stay. Our parking was comped and room rate reduced because of all the hassle.
“Acceptable Alternate in Evanston”
There's nothing extraordinary about the Best Western University Plaza but there's also nothing wrong with it. The location was a bit of a haul into the city if using public transportation, but it was also in a good location with enough going on in the surrounding area. The rate was reasonable and the service is what you'd expect. My room was alright if not spending large amounts of time in it. I'd easily return and recommend the hotel.
“Hotel”
Nice place. I'd recommend it.
“nice room”
we just stayed there, it has a small business center where you can print out/use the computer etc, which was nice. the staff was very friendly and helpful.
“Dirty, and bad service”
I am forced to stay at this hotel every few months because my employer is nearby (and this is often the cheapest option in the area). While it is fairly 'upscale' for a Best Western, the place is not clean. I've "enjoyed" clumps of hair on the wall in the shower, suspect stains on the bedspreads, and very dirty floors in almost every room I've been in. The heat/cool controls are the old style without a thermostat - just low/hi heat, low/hi cool. Both smell - the heat smells of dust, and the cool smells of mold. It is almost impossible to keep the rooms a comfortable temperature - they end up either too cold or too hot if you do not get up to shut off the fan. This hotel often has the best rate in Evanston - but if you're not motivated solely by price, you'd be better off in a slightly more expensive place.
“not too impressed”
The hotel is nice. In fact, I have stayed there before as I visit NU frequently. However, this time the room on the 11th floor did not seem right: more like a lay way for staff or something. Bad (almost nil) furniture, ancient TV, rusty table with no office chair. It was very hard to do my work. Has to call to get a soap in the bathroom the first day when I got in. Other days the maintenance did a good job though. Breakfast was great!
“Very accomodating staff.”
Rates are good compared to downtown Chicago. Parking fee was not indicated on the expedia web site. All in all, a good stay.
“ChicagoToGo”
Great hotel
“Given the price you cannot ask for much more”
The hotel does not look so nice from outside but my room was nice and I had a beautiful view on the skyline of Chicago and Lake Michigan. The internet connection wasn't working very well on all days and some of the staff could have been a bit more friendly. I was visiting Northwestern University - it's just a ten minutes walk. If one wants to visit Chicago, I'd personally rather get something closer to downtown although the metro and metra stations are pretty close. It's 5 to 10 minutes walk to the metra station which takes one in 20 to 25 minutes to downtown. The breakfast was not overwhelming but alright for a continental breakfast (i.e. no sausage, ham, scrambled eggs alike but a nice waffle maker and good orange juice). There are also plenty restaurants for dinner around in walking distance.
“Represents Best Western well.”
Amenities were pretty skinny, but I was delighted with the location near Northwestern University where I was going for a seminar and the location near so many shops, cafes and restaurants and the biggest Barnes & Noble store I've ever been in.
