“Beautiful grounds, good location”

I stayed at this hotel on my most recent vist and would probably try somewhere else next time I visit Chiang Mai. It was nice, but not nice enough to warrant a return visit. The grounds were beautiful, the food at the dinner buffet descent(nothing to brag about). The concierge and limo service did a good job, however some issues I had were room cleaners not doing a 5 Star job, front desk taking forever to pickup the phone, operator not being able to understand english well enough -- I spoke slow and tried to articulate myself as much as possible but the operator still had problems understanding. Good thing is its about two blocks from the night market.

“Beautiful Hotel but Horizon Club Lounge a let down”

We stayed in the Chiang Mai Horizon Club Executive Suite for 6 nights and hoping to have the quality of the Bangkok Horizon Club Lounge duplicated there. The Lounge was under staffed as a result the service was severely compromised. The selection of food was also very limited. There were times when they were more than 40 to 50 patrons with maximum of 3 staff members including check-in staff. Conversing in English was also a struggle at times. On the plus side: Beautiful pool, kids' gym, housekeeping was immaculate and overall a gracefully aged beautiful hotel/resort. We also joined in the NYE celebration with dinner at the Salapathai Resturant/Bar, that was nicely decorated with a slight let down on the service quality. for the "westernised" price charged. Overall, a very enjoyable experience.

“Poor Concierge Service”

While the hotel is beautiful, the concierge service was inadequate. They failed to call a taxi that I had specifically pre-arranged with the concierge desk, making us almost miss our flight. In addition, they arranged a very bad tour of the elephants. Given that this is a hotel for international travelers, it would help if the concierge staff spoke and understood languages other than Thai.

“This is not on the same level as the other hotels in the chain”

The Horizon lounge, has excellent staff. However that is as far as it goes, this hotel has no idea what 5 star means. The food in general in at best poor in quality and imagination. It is clear that the management are not in touch with reality. They would all be best served to go and work in another Shangri-la and get an eductaion how a 5 start hotel should be run.
