“RatiLanna - Luxurious but far from town center”

Our room was amazing, with hardwood floors and furniture, a whirlpool tub, and a balcony with views of the pool and river. The service and staff were friendly and professional. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet, which offered both western options (eggs, toast, pancakes) as well as asian breakfast foods (stir frys, rice, noodle dishes). It was my husband's birthday, which the hotel acknowledged by sending us a lovely cake from room service. That was a very nice personal touch, and made his birthday special. The hotel is a bit far from the downtown area. However they do provide shuttle service to the Night Bazaar twice per evening (you find your own way back). There are lots of restaurants near the night bazaar, and a tuk-tuk back to RatiLanna is inexpensive. The BBQ buffet dinner at our hotel seems very popular on the weekends, although we did not try it as we had other plans both evenings. The service at the spa was fantastic and the prices were very reasonable. The traditional thai massage I received there was several notches above what I got in the massage places downtown. In fact, in our three weeks in Thailand, the treatment I got at RatiLanna's spa was by far the best. I would highly recommend it. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway -- the hotel and surrounding area is quiet and peaceful. But if you are more into late-night nightlife you might want to book something closer to town.

Area recommendations
The night bazaar is fun to go to, but if you are there on a Saturday night you could also head to the Saturday market which offers lots of local food and is much lest touristy than the night bazaar. I would also recommend a daytrip to the Elephant Nature Park (a sanctuary for abused elephants) -- it is a very good cause and it was a truly memorable experience. There are lots of Thai cooking schools in Chiang Mai. The "A Lot of Thai" cooking school greatly exceeded our expectations. The instructor, Yui, was so knowledgeable and helped us to create some authentic-tasting Thai food.

“Would definately stay here again”

The staff at RatiLanna were extremely friendly. They always go out of their way to greet you and see if they can help you. Staff were always helpful in calling Tuk Tuk's and arranging for taxi service. We used the taxi service to go Elephant Trekking and go to Tiger Kingdom for a day. Our driver was extremely friendly and accomodating. The front desk staff, restaurant staff, and bell desk staff are definately top notch. Would definately stay at RatiLanna again. Between Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phukett so far...Chiang Mai was by far our favorite place.

Area recommendations
I would recommend this area because it's very close to the market. It also was very close the the shopping mall with movie theater as well as the airport. The jungle events were some what far...but I didn't see many resorts out there and those would be far from the market. It worked really well to start with Elephant Trekking in the morning, then stop by monkey show and tiger kingdom on the way back...only cost us $1200 baht I think for the taxi all day to drive us around.

“Nice, quiet, out of the way”

A very nice hotel with fantastic rooms. This is for you if you enjoy small boutique hotels. The only drawback was it is a little out of town.

“A very great hotel by the river”

Well worth a stay, out of town a little no problems with transport. The hotel offer a free ride into town in the evenings. The staff very freindly and very helpful. Breakfast good, eating in town at night is the way to go.

Area recommendations
Take a good look round, the evening markets are so so, but the Saturday market set up in a different part of town is worth a visit. More local stalls with out the normal market rubbish.

“Chiang Mai's best by far”

This hotel is simply one of the best in Chiang Mai - nothing was too much bother - I cannot speak more highly of it - only disappointment was we were not staying there for longer - we will next time! If we could give more than 10 stars we would.

Area recommendations
Must go to the local night market - one of the best in Thailand
Shopping
Probably one of the cheapest in Thailand

“Beautiful amenities and exceptional service from all staff”

We found this hotel on Expedia quite by accident. We were looking for a 4 or 5 star hotel in Chiang Mai that had some abiance and nice facilities for our honeymoon. What a treat to stay at this hotel!! They did some very special things for us for our first night (I won't spoil any surprises for you love birds). The entire staff was extremely nice and accomodating our entire stay. From being greeted everywhere with a friendly smile along with a "sawadeeka" by the staff to them calling tuk tuks any time of the day or night....the entire staff was friendly and accomodating. The hotel offered some uniqueness that we didn't have at other places we stayed. I really enjoyed making merit with the monks early in the morning on their river pier. That was truly special. The surrounding neighborhood wasn't as nice as the hotel, but it didn't matter as we were often taking tuk tuks to nearby eateries and shopping areas. Great place to stay.

“oasis in the city”

We loved the Ratilanna. Booked for 2 nights just in case we didn't like it. Ended up staying the full 5 nights. The hotel is quiet and located about 8 minutes tuk tuk or taxi ride (@ 2-3 dollars ) away from all the action (the night market) and 10 mins from riverside restaurants. We liked that we could look out of our window and see greenery rather than other buildings. We got a river room view which had a partial view of the river and other rooms on either side. That was not an issue as from previous reviews I knew what to expect. The only problem we had was the airconditioner temperature was difficult to control (either too hot or too cold by one degree). That aside, the staff were wonderful and the bed huge and comfortable. Breakfast was very good too. We would definitely consider returning.. Bring mosquito repellant. Was monsoon season there.

Area recommendations
Recommend Elephant hospital/nature reserve ( not elephant performance which involves cruelty to animals to get them to paint, kick a ball etc). Also restaurants: The Goodview; Riverside and WholeEarth near night market Chiang Mai

“This hotel and Chiang Mai were great”

When we arrived we were asked if we would like to upgrade (for an extra cost). We were shown the room and we loved it. Silks and fine woods throughout, even waterfalls in the 'dining' area and the bathroom. Our balcony which had a swing, overlooked the pool. We ate breakfast beside the river every morning. Very tranquil. The pool was very refreshing after a hot day. The staff were very kind and helpful. The decor throughout show-cased Chiang Mai talents and industry (furniture and tin craft). We took a tuk tuk to the night market and also to the day market. We hired a taxi for a very reasonable cost to take us sight seeing for a day. (He had delivered us to the hotel from the airport...many taxis to choose from outside the airport.) Chiang Mai is very different from other places in Thailand and necessary to see if you wish to see the country. We were delighted to have chosen this hotel. We had arranged to stay for 3 days but could have stayed longer.

Area recommendations
Visit the Tiger Preserve where you will also find a fish spa. The snake 'farm' people had quite a sense of humour. Be surprised by the talented elephant painters and see the hills and the tall trees on their grounds...a great picture. Stop into a restaurant in the night market for something to eat and in the day time sniff all of the aromas of the fresh herbs and see the beautiful flowers.
