“Compact but Friendly”

The room was small but was extremely comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful and we were surprised to find nice little touches like Bucks Fizz at the entrance of the breakfast room and fairy cakes at Reception in the afternoon. If you time your booking right there is sometimes a free happy hour in the bar.....what more could you ask for

Area recommendations
If the weather is good take a picnic to the park next to the river. It is a really nice place to sit and watch the world go by. Follow this with a walk along the river and you will have a romantic afternoon
Dining
If you want something nice to eat in Chester (UK) try the Bar Lounge for Sunday Lunch. Service is professional and they lunch is a very fair price for an excellent meal. We were made to feel very very welcome and special.

“HHHHMMMMMMM”

This was not the worst place I have stayed in however i was a little miffed about the" check in time" the chap at the front desk was having none of it. the room was ok but the bathroom was in dire need of updating ie a poor performing electrick shower etc . But it did what it said on the can , a reasonable rate for a reasonable room. Thank you Best Western.

“If I was paying less, I'd be satisfied”

Positives: - good breakfast - polite service - comfortable bed Negatives: - Room in need of refurbishment, have stayed in cheaper B&Bs with better quality rooms. - Room small for price Overall: A bit of a dated tired hotel, my room (120) was quite different from the rooms advertised on the websites. For the price, I would expect a bit more luxury, the TV & kettle were old, the radiator scuffed and the en-suite shoe horned into the room. If I was paying half of the price, I could overlook this! The necessities were there, but not outstanding. Shame.

Area recommendations
Hoole Road B&Bs - great value and better service.

“Good Value”

Hotel close to Train Station and within walking distance to main area of town. City tour hop on hop off tour pick up is just around the corner opposite the station. Beautiful city with lots of photo opportunities. Definitely worth a return visit. Purchace your room with breakfast included as it is great value.

Area recommendations
Chester is an old walled town that has maintained the cunturies old charm. The hop on hop off tour gives you a great overview for your own exploring.

“Turn your head on this one & don't bother”

I would not recommend this hotel for multiple reasons. Firstly, there was no labeled parking area on the exterior of the hotel. I was not asked at check in if I parked a car, however I was asked at check out if I had parked? (in order to pay) Check in was poor. Not informative at all. Entrance to room was very run down. Wear and tear of the hotel is very evident. The hotel had a poor smell throughout. Our guest room smelled stale and muggy, theceiling was warped & water was leaking through the floor above our room. There were hairs in the bowl with tea bags, sugar, creamers - not what I asked for!! To provide positivity, shower was decent, however very short for taller individuals. Service in bar area was also poor, non-informative, didn't upsell or provide recommendations. I had someone else's lipstick on my wine glass! Again not what I asked for. And to make matters worse, the hotel typically goes for 1/2 the price, however as Chester was "busy" it was double the price for this stay!!!!!! I didn't get anything extra except scammed. Don't bother staying here and turn your head on this one. There are better places to stay in Chester in a very close vicinity for sure!

“"Golden Oldie" traveller very happy with hotel.”

Hotel was almost opposite rail station, very convenient. Lovely Elizabethan style building and imposing entrance. Staff were very welcoming and I was upgraded from the single room I had booked to a light, airy double room at no extra cost. The room, bed linen and towels were spotless and the room was comfortable and tea & coffee making facilities were provided. Staff gave me all the information I needed to enjoy Chester city and Chester zoo. Free shuttle bus goes from outside the station frequently to city centre, I used this a lot, although it is only about a 10 minute walk to the centre from the hotel. Breakfasts were excellent, breakfast room staff very cheerful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I was out most days so didn't have an evening meal at the hotel so can't comment on the evening meals and lunches. The room I had was in need of redecoration and a few minor repairs but was clean and comfortable so that made up for it. I would suggest that a good odd-job man is hired instead of the "odd bodge" man they seem to have at the moment. As a pensioner travelling alone, the staff treated me respectfully and were very helpful and friendly, I would stay at the Westminster again and would also recommend it.

Area recommendations
Chester city centre, many old buildings and the beautiful cathedral and roman wall which is very interesting.. I walked along the wall right around the city and passed many great sights, stopped off at the River Dee, went for a river trip, had fish and chips then went into the old Roman gardens and inspected the ruins then continued along the wall again and met a guide dressed in Roman centurian gear. Most of the city centre is pedestrianised, wonderful for tourists to wander around. Chester zoo is one of the best in Britain, a must for anyone interested in the protection of wildlife, this is reached by a very pleasant 20 minute bus ride from the bus station which is at the back of the imposing town hall building. Chester is a great place for a long weekend, plenty to see, plenty to do.
Getting there
I booked my train journey weeks in advance and timed my arrival with the check-in time at the hotel. With booking well in advance and being a bit flexible about timing, I managed to obtain tickets which were a quarter of the price I would have paid if I had bought the tickets on the day of travel. I alway advise people to book in advance and hunt around for bargain prices... a half hour on the internet could save you £sss.

“Not impressed”

I was extremely disappointed with this hotel. I visited with my mother and we were sent to a room in the basement, down about 4 flights of stairs. The room was therefore lacking in light and was very noisy. We barely slept. In the morning, when checking out, we told the receptionist that we were not satisfied with the noise or the distance to the room, but he was not interested and didn't even acknowledge the comment. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone - it was vastly overpriced for the service and room we recieved!
