“Real character”
Great big rooms with some classic furniture and decoration - a different place to stay in this world of modern conformity
“Excellent value and comfort”
Located very comveniently for all amentiies especially the station and a short walk into the city centre. We stayed in the King Quarters (a new hotel building attached to the old without having to go outside). These rooms are superbly comfortable with de luxe bathrooms and there is a comfortable breakfast room downstairs. Might be lacking character from the outside but great inside. I can't comment on the more historic old part to the hotel, but I'd happily return.
“Probably one of Chester's best!”
Staff were very professional and helpful, room was a double standard and was very comfortable and quite spacious. We had a "bar snack" in the early evening as the restaurant did not open until 6.30pm, and it was excellent - it was the most enjoyable meal that my wife and I had eaten out in a long while - well done! Breakfast was of an excellent quality and variety, and the surroundings were great - we looked out into the Roman Courtyard that had been created. Overall, a great experience!
“Good stop”
Easy access from train and free transport downtown. Good headquarters for exploring the city and surroundings
“Old but Efficient”
The hotel staff were very friendly, extremely efficient and couldn't do enough for us - a refreshing change for someone who travels frequently. Great location, just far enough from town to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre but a short walk to all of the city's amenities. Two small complaints - the room was too hot and I couldn't seem to get the radiators to turn down/off (could have been user error) and our room was above the bar so it was noisy at times, but by the time we returned from an evening meal out it was quiet.
“I will avoid all Best Western Hotels from now on”
There was a major fire, close to the Hotel, on the day I was due to stay. It caused major disruption; the roads and railway station were closed, and National Rail Enquiries announced that there would be no rail service into Chester, for an indefintite period. Naturally, I had to cancel all my meetings, but my attempt to postpone or cancel the booking with the Best Western Hotel was not well received. They insisted that, according to their terms and Conditions, I must forfeit the entire cost of the booking. Of course, legally, they are right. But as an excercise in customer relations, I was not impressed at all. And in the past, I have generally found their competitors to be more customer orientated, more helpful and more detirmined to hang on to loyal customers. Personally, I will avoid using any Best Western Hotel in future, and have requested my staff here and in the USA to do the same.
“Not exactly in the centre of town.”
The public areas of the hotel are a little tired. The room was comfortable and clean, although rather small for what was described as an executive double. Full cooked breakfast buffet included, so overall pretty good value, but not very close to the centre, probably 15 minutes walk away.
“very nice hotel but rooms on the old part need updating”
The hotel was very nice in overall and had very nice and interesting features. The breakfast was very nice and there was plenty of variety for everyone. The outside garden was very nice. The only issue is that the rooms on the old part could do with some renovation specially beacause the windows couldn't be open so there was no way to get fresh air in the room and it got really hot. Also you can hear the floor boards when people moving in the room upstairs which could be quite noisy at times. There is not a lot of parking in the hotel's car park but you can park at the train station which is right next door and it's even cheaper.
“A good place to stay in Chester”
Nice hotel well situated next to station and short walk to city centre. Bedroom in the older part of hotel comfortable and roomy. Food a bit expensive but the free bar 5-7pm makes up for this but be prepared to queue. Would stay there again.
“Not worth the money”
We stayed here for a wedding, staying both friday and saturday nights. Good points. Breakfasts were very good, shower was powerful and hot, our room even in the old part of the hotel was a good size. Bad points. The bin in the bathroom had not been emptied from the previous guests! Most of the room was clean but there part that clearly got neglected. Room was far too hot with no air con or a window that would open wide enough to cool it down. Bed was extremely uncomfortable, in fact it was the worst 4 star hotel's bed I have ever slept in. The springs could be felt sticking out of the matress so much that we had to take the duvet out of its cover and place it under the bottom sheet so we could get some sleep (lets face it we didn't need to sleep under it as we were already too hot). Pillows too were poor quality. If you want a 4 start hotel in chester this is not it.
