“Good for price. Small but charming.”

This hotel is pretty much as expected for the price. BUT, it is right on a main road, which came as a surprise. They said the traffic dies down at night which proved to be correct. They served a very tasty dinner at a reasonable price. Which was good as without a car there is no place to go. It is is a residential area, not close to any shops or restaurants as far as I could see. The hosts were very gracious, although the wife never did deliver the hair dryer. It is a small place and my room & en suite bathroom were small. This did not bother me, but a large person would have trouble in the bathroom. Strange things missing like no soap in shower( oversight?) but tea & biscuits in room. Comfy bed.Furnishings more or less antique & tastefully done. He took me to airport for 7 pounds, which is a good deal. if I needed to stay more than one night, I would choose a bigger place with amenities ( gym, bar, pool, etc)

Area recommendations
If you want something other than a basic hotel room, you need to be in the center of Manchester. The suburbs are just that, mostly residential. I did not get a chance to see much of the downtown area, expcet to note that it had all the big shops and lots of restaurants.
What to pack
Any time you go the UK, allow for cold weather & pack layers. I have been in March, May, June, August, September and I have been freezing at various times. Always take a WOOL sweater and a raincoat with a removable warm lining. I am frequently amused by Americans traveling in a T shirt & shorts, as they typically get a temperature shock when they exit the plane on British soil. Unless you plan to always be in a car, take good walking shoes. People walk everywhere. I was there in early March and I wore comfy fashion boots non stop. I also wore a variety of scarves, from cashmere to light cotton. And a woolly hat. I needed long warm tights and thermal underwear. It does warm up sometimes in May & June, but it is rarely really hot. Hotels & private houses often do not supply wash cloths, so take your own in case.
