“Not Impressed this is not a 3 star hotel”
Bathroom was dirty, tub had a anti-slip on the floor and it was soap scum. Corner of the bathtub floor tile was dirty. Bed was not comfortable and mattress was worn. Beautiful Hotel Lobby, rooms are substandard and very outdated. I was tricked in to a 3 star rating, not even close. I left a note in the room so maybe someone will fix it.
“Not Impressed”
Do not understand why normally rooms can go for more than $$$$ a night. This hotel is to be historic but most historic hotels I have stayed in are very well kept, this place has not. Furniture in the room did not match and looked at though it came from a second hand store it was scratched, finish was peeling off and it was in very poor condition. The beds were hard and not very comfortable. The bathroom was very small, paint was peeling from the walls. Perhaps other rooms in the Main section are of better quality but wouldn't know as we were not offered one of those rooms. Also, when anyone in the hall way talked you could hear as though they were in the room, very poor sound barriers and when they closed their doors is was like they were slammed shut.
“Parts of the hotel were fantastic and others not so great”
The Fantastic Parts - The reception area is georgeous and the gardens are beautiful. Everyone there was very friendly and accomodating. We swam in the heated pool and loved it. We liked history aspect and uniqueness of the trains. The Not So Great Parts - There is a lot to see on the grounds but the abandoned building across the street deters from the grandeur. When we arrived there was trash piled in a corner and a cleaning cart left in the hall. In the room next to ours, dirty dishes from room service were piled. All those things were still there when we left the next day. They had been sitting there for at least 16 hours.
“Would not recommend”
The lobby smelled very old and mildewed. The exterior doors of several rooms were decorated, indicating that people were living in the hotel rooms. The buildings were very old and showed their age. My friend refused to stay there.
“Chattanooga Choo Choo”
This hotel is definately old and dated. The lobby bathroom was dirty the evening we checked in and still dirty the morning we checked out. Our rooms were in building 2 and were clean and neat. It appeared they had been renovated, but there is only so much you can do with a structure as old as this one. Only one bar of soap for both the sink and the shower. The vent in the bathroom was extremely loud and could not be turned off. We shut the door. The bed could use a comforter instead of 2 sets of sheets and a thin blanket in between. The internet service was so slow that the pages would not load - I finally gave up. The grounds were nice and we enjoyed the model train museum. Breakfast in the restaurant was very reasonable and quite tasty. My husband had the buffet and I ordered from the menu. Service was very good. The rating of this hotel compared to comparable properties should probably be a 2 to 2 1/2 definately not a 3 star property. It was really funny how we got the reservation because once reading the reviews we definately did not want to stay here so we were offered a "3" star property at a very good price on expedia.com so I guess we were just destined to stay at the Chattanooga Choo Choo. Just don't expect the greatest if you choose to stay here.
“great location”
The hotel was very conveniently located, right across the street from the free electric shuttle. Getting around was extremely easy for us. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was unexceptional, but met all of our needs. Only downside was the inefficiency of the shuttle service. They seemed very disorganized and told me I just needed to call once our flight had landed. When we did this, we got an answering machine so called the front desk who assured us they would send the shuttle right out. We ended up waiting for an hour and it took 2 more calls to get them there.
“.Looking forward to returning”
Very pleasant time-Will defently return
“Nice place to stay, convenient to sites downtown, would stay again”
Nice place to stay convenient to downtown tourist sites, would stay there again
“Needs some TLC”
This hotel is super convenient to downtown activities, however, it looks like it hasn't had any improvements done to the decor of the rooms in about 15 years. The room was clean, just very dated and sparse. Had high hopes that this would have been a nice, intown, historic place to stay. After staying, I think there are probably better options out there as this didn't feel historic at all, just dated, like 1970-1980's dated, not 1920's.
“Everything we needed available at or easily accessable from hotel.”
Hotel comfortable, amenities very good, staff courteous and helpful. Shuttle service next to hotel made car virtually unnecessary. Golf cart shuttle service on hotel grounds also very helpful.
