Was hesitant when I booked but found hotel staff very pleasant, rooms very clean, beds and pillows very comfortable. Nice to have a safe, microwave, refrig in room. Welcoming and nicely decorated foyer, registration area

Very comfortable and affordable accommodations!

Posted 27-Jun-2015
Pros: We chose the hotel for its location and affordability, and we were very pleased with the room. Breakfast was also very good.
Location: Close to UVA and Monticello
Only stayed one night, but could have stayed longer-it was that nice!

Close to University, but not best place...

Posted 22-Jun-2015
Pros: Easy to find on large intersection, free wi-fi, continental breakfast
Cons: Newer beds, pillows, shower heads
Location: Shopping, restaurants, NTelos Wireless Pavillion, Monticello, University of Virginia
The Cavalier Hotel, I suspect, is part of the University of Virginia system. It's location right near most of the campus is great for folks visiting Charlottesville for children or friends attending the University. The hotel is also located about a ten minute drive from downtown, where there's a large outdoor shopping center and an outdoor amphitheater used for concert venues. In addition, Monticello, home of President Thomas Jefferson, is a 15-20 minute drive up the hills surrounding the city. As for the hotel, the building is in the older side, but the lobby, breakfast area and physical appearance of the hotel are in good condition. My room was appropriately sized for the two double beds. Comes with a flat screen HDTV with no HD programming, microwave, small refrigerator and programmable safe. The beds were in relatively good condition, but I was able to feel the springs. Pillows are plentiful, but lack support for the head and neck unless using a stack of two.

Close to Campus

Posted 20-Jun-2015
Pros: Location. Nice complimentary breakfast bar. As clean, if not cleaner, than many a chain hotel that I've stayed at. The bed and pillows were comfy.
Cons: Upgrade the toiletries and the bathrooms, for example, the shower heads.
Location: Right across the street from UVA. Close to historic Monticello and many wineries.
This property is a little older, probably circa late 1960s, but was clean and the lobby was updated. Nice outdoor pool. In walking distance of a few restaurants and a short drive to the downtown walking mall which is a must see!

Convienent to campus

Posted 17-Jun-2015
Cons: Update bathrooms
The hotel is very dated. The rooms are small- hair dryer did not work. Chose because of distance from campus. When you walked outside the room it was boiling hot in the hallway. The sun hits it and talk about the greenhouse effect! You literally had to take a deep breath and hold it until you got near the elevators! With such a prestigious campus, I expected something more.

Hello PA We appreciate you taking time to rate your stay and for leaving a comment, We apologize for the inconvenience the week that you were here we were having the hallway ventilation system being worked work regular service and to add a higher speed blowers, even with the heat resistant film on windows it was hot on the floors, now that the project is complete, I hope you will come back and give us another try and see that the hallways with the Floor to Ceiling windows are comfortable and also allow for the awesome view of the campus grounds

Pros: Pleasant staff.
Cons: Water pressure.
More akin to a motel than a hotel. While the 'surfaces' have been updated (carpet, bedding, curtains), the hardware (sink, toilet, tub, shower) remains distinctly old/worn. Overall, a poor value, especially on the weekend.

They were so nice and the room was so comfortable

We needed a hotel that was affordable and near the hospital. They were helpful and gave us a free breakfast. It was a great place to stay.

Fit our needs perfectly.

Posted 31-May-2015
Pros: Breakfast buffet was great.
Cons: Can't think of anything.
Location: There was a restaurant next to the parking area. We used that on the evening of our arrival.
Upon our arrival, we easily found the rear parking area. The desk staff welcomed us and were efficient in assigning us our rooms (we needed three rooms which were thoughtfully adjacent.) Everything was worked out in a friendly atmosphere. The next morning, we found the breakfast buffet to be ample in size and variety of food choices.

The hotel was fine and the staff very helpful

Posted 29-May-2015
Pros: Good value and well poisitioned
Cons: The rooms could do with updating
Location: Very well located for the university and handy for eating places.
The hotel/facilities were fine. The room was a little dated and the passage outside a bit shabby also the air conditioning was very noisy. However, the room was clean and the price was good and the breakfast was good too.
