Located just outside Charleston, SC, on the bluffs of the Ashley River, the Inn at Middleton Place offers relaxing accommodations in an atmosphere of unsurpassed natural beauty. Award winning architectural design has created a modern counterpoint to the neighboring 18th-century Middleton Place. The Inn's distinctive architecture and simple, rustic décor focuses the visitor's attention upon the beauty of the natural surroundings. With dramatic floor to ceiling windows that evoke a sense of living within nature and wooden plantation shutters for privacy, guests enjoy bucolic sights and sounds. Each room is furnished with handcrafted furniture, hardwood floors with braided rugs and warm cypress paneling. A wood burning fireplace adds to the country inn ambiance and can be enjoyed during the cooler months, while a 150 gallon garden tub beckons guests to relaxation. Each day of your stay begins with your choice of either complimentary assorted fresh fruit, pastries and cereals or a purchased hardy, hot breakfast. In addition to the Gardens, begun in 1741, the House Museum (c. 1755) offers tours daily focusing on Arthur Middleton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Plantation Stableyards bring to life the sights and sounds of an 18th and 19th-century self-sustaining plantation as traditional craftsmen and trades brought to colonial America by both European settlers and African slaves are demonstrated and displayed.
