“Great Location”

The hotel is in the best possible location for visiting Historic Charleston, particularly if your main focus is shopping. As is to be expected of a historic inn, the building and facilities are older, but certainly adequate. The housekeeping and waitstaff were great, but the front desk staff, although friendly, were either not particularly knowledgeable of restaurants, bars, or "things to do", or perhaps their lovely manners got in the way of their abilities to express any solid opinions. I would recommend this inn for its convenient location, but do not expect anyone there to help you plan your time.

Area recommendations
I can see why it's so popular for "Girls' Weekends". There is a lot of shopping, and it ranges from high-end, to art galleries, to antique shops, to funky little boutiques. The Market was just O.K. Most of the space is filled with touristy junk that I would never buy. It's too bad that this great space isn't better utilized by the local artisans who are on a waiting list for permit space. We didn't get to the Farmers' Market (which is held on Saturdays), but we were told that the shopping there is quite good. Great restaurants include Magnolia's, Blossom, and Mercato's,
Other
I would not recommend the "Sunset Sailing Cruise". The staff was lame, as was the cruise. We have done similar sailing excursions in both Chicago and Newport, RI, that were absolutely beautiful (and the boats actually "sailed".) This goofy thing sailed a very short distance from the harbor, and then parked itself. Two hours on a boat that doesn't move...ugh! Plus, although Historic Charleston is lovely as a walking city, the view from the harbor is nothing that anyone ever needs to see.

“I will be back!”

This is a very nice hotel in a great location! You step right outside of the hotel and are next door to the shopsl It had a nice veranda and large bedroom area with a fireplace. It was very cozy!

“Good But Not Great”

The location can't be beat - right on King Street in the heart of Charleston - one block away from the market. And, while the hotel was quite authentic, the room could've been more comfortable. And the staff wasn't as responsive as I would've liked. Wanted a Diet Coke, vending machine was out, and was told that the delivery wasn't until two days later, but if I wanted one really badly I could walk to their other inn. (Huh?) And, kept waiting on a call back from staff about an issue, and I had to call them three times. More attention to updating the rooms, and to basic customer requests would take this "good" hotel to "great."

“Great Hotel”

Great location and very comfy rooms and bed. The breakfast was only adequate, but the price through Expedia was so good that breakfast out was no big deal. I would definitely go back.

“Loved it”

This hotel was exactly as billed, a great historic hotel in downtown Charleston. It shows its age in some places, but that only contributes to the charm. My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon and loved it.

“Loved, loved, loved Kings Courtyard Inn!”

This charming hotel fit the bill for our stay in Charleston. It's old world charm and up-to-date service were wonderful. We got lots of friendly help from the reception desk. We also enjoyed the free wine & cheese evenings and the price great considering the size of the room, the free w&c evening and nice continental breakfast. We did feel that after seeing so many wonderful patio gardens in the city that the hotel could work up thier's a bit more as it was a bit devoid of plants.

Dining
Try FIG for a non-touristy and delicous dinner and/or drinks.

“Lovely old hotel”

The staff was lovely, helpful. We'd go back again in a heartbeat.

Area recommendations
The Peninsula Grill lives up to its reputation. The Lobster-3 ways is one of the most exquisite dishes I've ever had, truly. The patio couldn't have been more pleasant. We had a wonderful lunch at Amen Street, too. The porch swings down on the dock at the river front are such a nice touch.

“Not what we expected”

We were hoping for a nice "Inn" experience. The hotel was "historic" but it just felt very old. There was a bad odor to the room, the water was dirty when it started coming out of the shower, there was no water pressure and there were Cherrios on the floor when we checked in. I asked if there was low water pressure and they said no. I assumed we had a problem. They said they would look at it while we were gone. There was no change to the problem and no explaination. At 4:30 we had to ask for our room to be cleaned. The TV was only a 19 inch. There was internet access which was a plus. We tried to check out a day early but could not with our being charged due to the cancellation clause they have you sign. We were very disappointed in the stay.

“Great Charleston Hotel and Location”

Although this was our first visit to the Kings Courtyard Inn, it won't be our last. Lovely hotel in a prime location. Loved the wine and cheese reception. Good breakfast delivered to our door. Excellent value for money.
