“nice place to stay”
Stopped here on way home. Room was clean and comforable. Great free breakfast selection. We didn't use pool or other amenities but overall they appeared nice and in decent shape.
“Just okay”
The room was clean however, as we were checking in, the prices people were being quoted as "walk-ins" was a lot less than we paid in advance. We felt penalized for planning our trip. Our "executive" king room was incredibly small. I did not see other rooms but it was like a postage stamp. I understand smaller rooms inside the city limits but not "executive". The hotel is located near a hospital so there were a lot of sirens but being on the 8th floor minimized the noise. It is also located in the fast food restaurant hub of Charleston so if that is your thing, you will be very happy including a 24 hour Mickey D. The free breakfast was excellent with lots of variety available.
“Enjoyable stay”
The hotel was clean, room comfortable and there was a free trolley that made it easy getting around. The bathroom was small. The free breakfast was excellent. I would recommend the hotel.
“Will Not Be Returning--”
I had thought we would be staying in a more upscale motel from the nearby Comfort Inn where we have stayed many years in the past. This Best Western used to be the old Howard Johson's. It was dark and depressing, and though redone, it was simply creepy. The front desk first gave us the wrong key so we had to go back down and have a new key calibrated. Then, as my husband and I were getting ready to leave for the evening, another family came barging in our room, with their dog. They said we had their room. I was not happy to hear that we were staying in a room where dogs typically stay as I have so many bad allergies.. Then, when we got home, again, my husband had to go downstairs and get another key as we couldn't get in again. There was also no coffeepot in our room. The mattress on my bed was not comfortable and was sloping at the bottom of the bed. The view out of the window was non-existent as we faced some sort of industrial equipment. I will never go back and do not understand how any of the good reviews could have given this place anything other than the lowest marks. I would prefer the Comfort Inn over this place. The only thing I liked about it was its location near Lockwood.
“BestWestern Downtown Plus - Not too bad”
The initial view of the hotel was not pleasing, especially for the price... I was disappointed with the curb appeal, as well as the quality of the room for the money. I do however like the fact that the hotel is pet friendly --
“A good night's sleep”
This hotel is a cheaper option on the edge of downtown Charleston, just 5 minutes by car from the more expensive hotels in the middle of downtown. Friendly staff; the restaurant and complimentary breakfast are both a bit basic, but adequate. The important bit: the good night's sleep, was what we enjoyed most.
“Bad location, Bad room”
The first room that I was put in had a horrible smell, actually the entire first floor did. That was the only available room that night so the next day I moved to a different room on a different floor. The smell was better but the rooms looked like they had not been maintained well. Parking at the hotel was just as bad. The first night I had to park very far away from the hotel and after that I was able to park closer but the spots were so tight that my car door got hit. Now my week old car had a huge dent and chipped paint thanks to this crappy hotel. Do not stay here, there are so many more places to choose from in the area.
“Affordable”
The hotel was clean and affordable. Close to downtown with trolley service available.
“Good hotel for the money”
Nice hotel, friendly staff, enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. Used the nearby bus stop to get to historic section, but if you stay past 8 pm you'll need a taxi to get back. Taxi serivces are readily available and reasonably priced.
“Over priced!!!!”
Will not stay here again!!!
