“Not easy to find on market day!”

There are most confusingly THREE hotels with the name of Ibis in La Rochelle, and when there is a market in town you cannot drive down Rue Fleuriau where our hotel is situated. We spent over an hour an a half driving round town by sat nav and getting conflicting directions before finding a way to walk the last hundred yards or so. The hotel itself was absolutely fine!

“does what it says on the tin”

fairly young reception staff - polo shirts is the uniform so you get the picture. They were pretty laid back but courteous at check in and helpful if you asked them anything, so as long as you dont expect a high degree of professionalism you wont be disappointed. Having said that they did what was asked of them so cant complain. Hotel is basic, compact and functional - that includes reception, breakfast room and our room. The bathroom was clean and the bed was comfy but we didnt go to la rochelle to spend time in the hotel - it was just a base to explore the town and we slept well at night there. the buffet breakfast is pretty good value compared to local cafes - all you can eat, and the staff keep the supplies topped up and again are friendly enough. Being in the middle of the town there is no parking but a 5 min walk away is a multistorey and we parked all day and overnight at very reasonable rates. This hotel's best feature is location. Right in the heart of the town, down a quiet little historic street, we walked easily around the town and over to the harbour. Its location really couldnt be beaten at the price we paid, and because of that it is excellent value for money - allowing you to spend a bit extra in the restaurants.
