“Good location for City Centre”

Very comfortable and spacious room. The staff on reception were very helpful on arrival. Close to the train station and good location for exploring the City Centre.

“excellent value and location”

Hard to find any fault with this modern and excellent value hotel. Rooms were large and comfortable. You are 10 minutes walk from the centre. Could not recommend it more highly. (Avoid the breakfast on the grounds of cost, but that is the same for all hotels)

Area recommendations

the old town is lovely and a trip to Isle de Re will woth it - bus is cheap and efficient.

“A great hotel in La Rochelle”

This Best Western Hotel was everything the reviews said it would be. It was modern, clean, comfortable and the staff could not have been more helpful. It is literally a 5 minute walk from the train station. The only small issue is the location, it is a good 15 minute walk from the centre of La Rochelle and the streets back later in the evening were dark and very quiet.

Area recommendations

The market place is well worth a visit but you do have to go in the morning as they close up early lunchtime. But the best part for me was simply wandering around the streets and the harbours. If visiting Rochefort make sure to go to their Musuem of French Artefacts - this covers four floors and is set up as old shops, cafes etc. Ile de Re can be visited via boats which leave from La Rochelle harbour. You need at least a whole day there as it has many villages etc wotrh visiting. If going back to the area again I would consider an overnight stay there.

Dining

As a vegetarian I found La Rochelle extremely limited. The cafes, rstaurants etc around the Harbour area all had very similar menus - basically starters, meat and fish. Even many of the patsa dishes were served with fish or meat. There are of course pizza's but you can only eat so many of those! Villa Marina, 18 Rue St Jean Du Perot, was a fantastic restaurant. Their home made pasta was delicious and came in vegetarian varieties as well as portions served with meat or fish. A reasonably priced restaurant with great service and the chef clearly cared about the food he prepared. For the Gallette lovers I would recommend the Creperie des Halles in Rue des Cloutiers (near the market). A fantastic ranges to suit all tastes and empty plates every time. It is definately worthwhilechosing restaurants way from the harbour as the price is signifcantly lower and the quality of the ffod much higher.

“Excellent stylish hotel”

The hotel was really excellent and we felt that for the price we got an extremely comfortable, clean and well decorated room. The hotel is perfectly located for the town and its only a 5 min walk into the main Marina where you find many great restaurants, cafes and shops. We will definitely come back and stay in the hotel for a longer period.

“Great base to explore La Rochelle”

Although the hotel was a little out of the main town (15 minutes walk) it was a great base. We were starting a months tour of France and Masq was one of the better hotels we stayed at. The room was spacious and well equoipped in a modern/minimalist style. It had nice touches like bottled wate rand tea/coffee making. Secure underground parking and pleasant pubic rooms with some great art.

Hotel is everything it suggests in advertising. Modern design and art with comfort. Good service and polite staff. Breakfast not included but good value.

“Excellent Service”

This is a very good hotel. It is in an OK location and it is expensive. However, everything about this hotel works. It is a bit out there and funky but the service is excellent, the staff very obliging, the rooms, while funky, are very modern and functional. Everything works and is comfortable. The bed was wonderful, the bathroom excellent. The bar had an excellent selection of wines by the glass, very well chosen. We would definitely stay there again and La Rochelle is an excellent destination. Hard to fault this hotel.

Traveller's tip

Take the hotel's advice when it comes to retaurants and avoid the plethora of waterside places along the quay.
