This hotel was relatively new so the rooms were good size. The bed, bathroom and TV were also quite new. The receptionist was very kind and helpful. I think he had only been on the job a few weeks. However there was one problem - with all the rooms. When you want to close the door, the mechanism sticks, so you really have to close the door hard to get it to close. And some people were having problems with this, so at night a couple of times you would heard people having to slam their door 5-10 times really hard (and getting frustrated) to get it to close. It was a bit disconcerting. About a half-mile away was a mall with a gigantic store - grocery store and lots of other stuff (sort of like a large Wal-Mart in the US). There are no walkways to stroll around the neighborhood, as this is a hotel for us by cars only.
The hotel was perfectly OK for the price. We regard the basic Campaniles as good value. They provide onsite parking, wifi, evening meal and breakfast (though the latter not included in the price), all of which one looks for after a long drive.
Finding it was a nightmare. The website needs to give its latitude and longitude, as these can be entered in a GPS.
The food was disappointing. We had the gourmand menu, which is not particularly cheap, and it was indifferent. It boasts about its restaurant, and this did not live up to the boasting.
This hotel is located three kilometres from the centre of Chaintre, 14 kilometres from Macon.More
This hotel is clean, and the room was huge, perhaps the largest room we have ever stayed in as a family (2 children, 2 adults). Dinner was delicious and so was breakfast. The children swam in the outside pool, and there is plenty for them to do over an afternoon. The staff was pleasant, but if they didn't speak English then they were not especially helpful in helping you understand. One receptionist spoke good English, and a lovely waitress spoke perfect English, she was charming, friendly and resourceful. The evening menu was difficult to get your head around, several different menus at different prices, but we got there in the end.
Located in a magnificent setting, in the heart of the Macon vineyards, the Chateau de la Barge, dating back to 1679, is a …More
