“A Trick to Find but Woth It”
We stayed in one of the three facilities the park offers, this one has the individual rooms and the Junior suite (which is what we had booked). Read your package from Expedia carefully since you will need to know where to go to check in and get your room assignment. We didn't do that so we had a bit of searching to do before we settled in. The Junior suite is the entire end of a building and ours faced the valley and the surrounding hills covered with olive groves and wonderful mountain views. The rooms were spacious and very well kept, and staff was very helpfull and pleasant. I would recommend this park to anyone who enjoys nature and wants to spend some time just chilling out on a balcony or terrace.
“Awesome atmosphere, away from the city.... a little too far”
The small hotel is very nice, friendly staff, beautiful location. Nice breakfast, quiet rooms, awesome bathroom. HOWEVER, it is too far away from the main city or anywhere you would need to be. When you book it it says it is only 2 miles to the main city... it is all alone in the hill, with it hard to get taxis up there, buses wont....I would love this place if it was closer. Its more for a quiet couple looking to remain alone or quietly enjoy the scenery. I stayed one night then went to another place just because of the location.
“Hard to find, but worth the hunt”
This place is extremely difficult to find, especially at night. The main "house" reception was gated closed. We finally went to a nearby restaurant, and one of the employees actually drove their car (we followed) back to the closed gated area and then to the "Il Borgello", which is the hotel some distance away. Our GPS indicated it was on an unmarked road. We couldn't have been more thankful to those that helped us find the place. We arrived late on the Sunday evening after Christmas. Our reservations were all in order, and we were shown our room. The accommodations are fine, though the shower is rather small. Clean. NO INTERNET AND NO PHONE, which we kind of liked. Breakfast is typical, except the marmalades were made on site. We did not have dinner during our stay though it looked inviting. This place was quiet, out of the way and placed in very spectacular surroundings. Catania airport is 60 minutes away with a toll of 1.30. Toarmina is 40 minutes away Syracuse about two hours. We also made it to Agrigento and Selinunte, which were around 4 hours each way. We found the hotel to be just what we needed after long touring days. If you have the time you can check out the Alcantera Gorge, about two miles away. There isn't much in the area surrounding the hotel, but assuming you drove, there are a couple of towns on the way that have a grocery store and some interesting restaurants. The main North - South Hwy is about 20 - 25 minutes away.
“Is it just me?”
I booked this location taking into account the reviews in Expedia. That the hotel and resort was considered an 'Insider's Select' destination by Expedia was an added bonus. However we (family of 4 , kids aged 8 and 5) were allocated to stay at the Casa Gialla part of the Casa Delle Monache complex Ths turned out to be a Studio apartment with a separate shower room. The 'full kitchen' did not include an oven or a kettle much less a washing machine which is what I'd expect from a self catering apartment I don't think this is adequate for a family of 4. Added to this was the palaver over which restaurant decided to be open on what night and the fact that the menu was extremely limited. We visited Il Borgo and that did look nice but didn't get to Il Poggio. Breakfast was pretty average - apart from the stale bread and warm milk for cereal (yuk). As mentioned by others finding the place is unnecessarily complicated; nothing that a few clearer signposts wouldn't sort out. Our swimming pool was about 100yds from the apartment - funny there are no pictures showing that on Expedia I'm afraid I don't understand the rave reviews given to this place. It is an ordinary hotel offering ordinary accommodation, service and food. The location isn't bad but we spent most of the time in Taormina or Giardini Naxos as the towns nearby are shall we say quite rural. I can't recomment the Casa Gialla as a place to stay for a family with young kids and I won't be coming back.
“poorly run .One to avoid if you don't want to do a lot of driving.”
Having read some of the previous review the broken air conditioning has been on going for a number of years yet you are still paying for it .Breakfast is mainly stale bread and left over desert from the previous evenings dinner. Some fresh fruit would surely be easy to provide. On one morning our table was covered in ants . We thought we had prepared well printing a number of maps and directions however it's still next to impossible to find . I would suggest some directions might be a good idea given the number of reviews asking for this .Despite describing staff as multilingual none speak English .We stayed in the IL Borgo which is supposed to be the best hotel in the group .I dread to think what the others are like .The location is very scenic and rural .
“Very nice, stayed longer than we pland. It is not in the park.”
. we got room no.3 in the pink house (the main one) it was big and beautiful.
“Great hotel, stunning views!”
I was really pleased with the hotel. Reading other reviews we were expecting it to be difficult to find but got more lost trying to get out of Catania airport. Just follow the signs for Francavilla on the SS185 and there are plenty of signs. We ended up staying at Il Borgo which was lovely, in a peaceful setting with stunning views. We only had dinner at the hotel the first night we got there and it was really nice although we couldn't finish the second course due to the amount of food. If you're looking for a cheap option for dinner one night I can strongly recommend Pronto Pizza (takeaway) in Gaggi - best pizza ever! If you are looking for a relaxing/romantic get-away and don't want to pay through the teeth then this place is perfect!
“good rustic hotel”
Hotel was just as expected from the other rooms, nice quiet location, friendly staff (despite something of a language barrier - always very keen to help), clean rooms. We had an excellent stay. Would have scored 5 but for some slight niggles over the state of repair of some bathroom fitments.
“A few niggles, but generally beautiful”
Our first night was disastrous due to broken air conditioning and me being 6 months pregnant and therefore very hot... 24 reception service did not exist. However, in the morning the lovely lady on the desk was very helpful (despite our lack of Italian and her lack of english) and changed our room. We were in Casa Delle Monarche and it was very nice, a little run down (the tennis court had lots of growth) but the pool area was well looked after, and the breakfast was perfectly respectable. The location is wonderful, such a beautiful gorge and the river was lovely for swimming in.
“Great family stay”
Although somewhat nervous as we were not sure which of the 3 hotels we would be in, nor exactly where they were, we had a fantastic stay. Booking in was simple via the reception at the Alcantara Gorge Centre, the hotel was lovely, in a great spot and the staff were excellent. Breakfast was great with a wide variety of foods and homemade cakes(not remotely full English!) and evening meals had to be booked, but again were simple and very local, OK choice was limited but it was fresh and well cooked. Nice pool and great access to Etna, Taormina, Alcantara Gorge etc. Overall a great and relaxing place to stay with Sicilian charm and character.
