Great service by the owner and wonderful dinner experience in the hotel dining room.

Well placed for Etna and surrounding area

Posted 29-Sep-2013
Pros: Comfortable rooms, relaxed atmosphere and hepful staff.
Cons: Perhaps access to some afernoon refreshments. If you're eating at the hotel it can seem a long wait for the start of the evening meal.
Location: Etna is a must and the Alcantara Gorge is worth a visit. Taormina's amphitheater is spectacular and the town has numerous other attractions.
The hotel was well maintained and the owners were very helpful with tips about the best places to visit. You'll need a care to make the best of your stay as it's a fair way from the airport and coast, with limited public transport. Buffet breakfast is leisurely - served from 8-10 and evening meals are an interesting mix of local ingredients, traditional Sicilian fare and the hosts own innovations. The 4 course meals are cooked fresh from locally sourced ingredients, with a fish and pasta course, but not huge portions and you have the hosts personal explanations of the dish, its origins and preparation.

Lovely hotel in the mountains

Posted 24-Sep-2013
Pros: Very friendly staff. Spotlessly clean. Setting is fabulous.
Cons: Proper translation on the room amenities.
Location: Location is very rural. The gorges are nearby.
The surroundings of this hotel are absolutely beautiful, the scenery is stunning. Pool area is lovely and quiet most of the time, we even had the whole pool to ourselves a few times. The people that own the hotel are very nice, they will help you out as best they can. We had understood from the room amenities that are advertised that we would have a kitchen, we were delighted with this because we thought that we could cook lunch and dine out in the evening, but the issue was that a "private kitchen" meant basically a kettle. We had dinner the first night there and although the food was lovely, we thought that it was a bit over-priced. We were offered a choice of either grappa or limoncello after our meal, and my husband thought it was so nice he asked for another one. When we checked out and paid our bill, we discovered that we were charged for the three drinks at €4 each, we didnt expect that.Rooms are definitely not sound-proofed as advertised, we could hear the people next door using the toilet. Overall it was a lovely holiday, but it is very rural and no restaurants or bars in walking distance. A car is definitely needed.

A lovely oasis!

Posted 16-Sep-2013
Pros: Practically everything.
Cons: The type & size of towels & the size of the shower cubicle, my husband & I are both tall people, so these could do with being bigger.
Location: The location is perfect for exploring the whole of the East Coast of Sicily! Etna of course, but even Agrigento is achievable!
The hosts are delightful, nothing was ever too much trouble! Always in good humour and had plenty of sightseeing advice. This resort has a very relaxing atmosphere, the evening meals were lovely, breakfast was too! Unfortunately, we didn't have time to take advantage of the Spa or pool facilities, 5 days just weren't enough.

Great hotel with excellent caring hosts. Breakfast was one of the best that we've had at various hotels in europe. Excellent location to visit Etna etc - great place if you want a bit of piece and quiet.

Excellent all-round Hotel

Posted 20-May-2013
Pros: The owners
Cons: Bring shower gel
Location: Just off main road, no traffic disturbance at night as quietens down quickly, really lovely hilltop villages nearby worth- half an hour to Taormina
very friendly owners, very attentive and welcoming ignore the SatNav co-ordinates on their website as according to our SatNav they were nearly 10 miles out!! The hotel is located a few hundred metres beyond the local attraction Gola d'Alcantara on the left of the main road between the Motta Camastra turn-off towards Taormina We ate at the hotel all four nights - the food was fresh local produce used in classic Sicilian dishes and was really good with the owners providing background info - thoroughly recommended

An oasis of calm

Posted 13-Apr-2013
Pros: The 'help yourself' to the fruit on the trees.
Cons: Difficult to criticise, but if I have to, the pillows could have been fluffier?
Location: About a mile away from the village with it's restaurants, set in beautiful scenery. You need a car here, but it's worth it.
Really welcoming hosts who are willing to help with all your needs and information requests. Delightful surroundings, parking your car in the orange grove (help yourself!), sitting on the balcony surrounded by the mountains and with a distant sea view. Ask about the local Etna guide who can take you on an informative day trip with hiking, far away from the madding crowds and at a similar price to the main tourist attraction.
