“Explore Sicily!!!”

The pool is very nice as is the whole out doors. Our room was small but had all necessities. My only complaint would be the size of the shower in the room. I'm over 2 meters tall and found it almost impossible to shower or wash my hair. Genetics! All in all a recommendable place to stay.

Area recommendations
Sicily is a fantastic place and Casale Romano was a great base. It is close to major roads and easy to find especially with satnav. The ss185 is a well paved but yet a good exercise before the real small mountain roads. Beware! Driving is not for the faint hearted or inexperienced driver. It also is nice when you can supplement your satnav with a good co-pilot. Preferably not one that is too excitable as it may lead to some (differences of opinion). I'm lucky to have a very good co-pilot who helped in avoiding some very close calls. The natives drive like they have no sense of mortality. They will happily sail past you, if you want to go at a reasonable pace. And the honking off the horns is rarely in anger and you will learn to appreciate it. Views are great! People are friendly! Small towns are inviting! An adventure that Sobina and Sola (can't forget Harold!) will help you make with information and hospitality!

“"A delightful guest house with a warm welcome"”

Sabina and her husband made us feel so very welcome and went to a great deal of trouble to make our holiday experience special. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and on the day they decorated our room with a flower arrangement and flower petals on the bed. They gave us good advice on where to visit each day. We especially liked the setting of Casale Romano Resort Guest House surrounded by the fruit trees with the colours of the fuit and the perfume of the flowers. It was lovely and peaceful to sit in those surroundings.

Area recommendations
Taomina and coast was very beautiful. Mount Etna was spectacular.
Getting around
We would strongly recommend hiring a car to visit the various locations.

“"Warmest welcome ever"”

We received the warmest welcome possible and would thoroughly recommend the resort to travellers looking for an individual hotel and a unique experience, nothing was too much trouble for the owners and their staff. The building itself has been tastefully restored with a perfect balance of traditional and contemporary design . Rooms are pleasing to the eye and have been individually furnished to reflect the style of the property. We had a lovely five days exploring the area and its restaurants despite the valley receiving the worst storms ever ! (Totally out of character for early November)

Area recommendations
Loads to see and experience close by, however a car is essential to be able to fully take advantage of the area and its scenery..

“Pleasant and friendly 'agriturismo'”

We stayed for two weeks in an apartment in this 'agriturismo' guesthouse in Oct 2010. The owner speaks good English and could not have been more friendly and helpful, offering her guests fresh oranges, lemons and walnuts from the garden, and regularly checking that we had all we needed. It did rain quite a bit while we were there so we didn't use the swimming pool, which looked nice. Breakfast is available in the guesthouse if required (5 euros) and Sabine cooks evening meals for guests occasionally in season (we chose to be self-catering as we were touring a lot). Our ground-floor apartment comprised 3 rooms - a living/dining/kitchen, a bedroom with comfortable kingsize bed (European-style two single mattresses on double base) and a spacious bathroom with washbasin, bidet, WC, shower cubicle and plentiful hot water. The living/dining room had a dining table with four chairs, small TV with satellite (a few English-speaking channels), a double bunk-bed unit with wardrobe, and an elderly sofa-bed. The kitchen area had sink, cupboards, a four-burner gas hob & oven (no grill), tall fridge-freezer and basic utensils. There was no washing machine but Sabine offered laundry services if needed. There was an outside terrace area with table and chairs and lovely views. The apartment was pleasantly located about 20 minutes from Giardini-Naxos and an hour from Catania airport. It was a good touring base and very good value. A much better choice than staying in a hotel in Taormina.

Area recommendations
Mt Etna makes a fascinating trip - you can take a cable-car and jeep ride to the crater rim (expensive) or just drive up the hairpin bends to see the lava landscape and panoramic views. Fantastic ancient Greek sites at Syracuse (about two hours by autoroute) and Agrigento (a longer drive across the island). Villa Romano del Casale was another UNESCO world heritage site well worth visiting (about three hours). Messina (one hour) has a lovely centre with mechanical clock (best at midday). In the local area, Taormina is pretty though more touristy, and Giardini-Naxos makes a pleasant visit. There is a local supermarket 5 mins away at Francavilla, a good one (Speccio) in Giardini-Naxos and an Auchan hypermarket near Catania (take the Misterbianco exit).

“A Real Treat”

This hotel is a real treat if you are looking for a peaceful break to recharge your batteries. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome by the owners. Their gererousity, kindness and hospitality was first rate, nothing was too much trouble for them. We had the 'Superior' class of room which was spacious and comfortable. There is not an evening meal offered every night, but when it is the standard of food is excellent, as is the local wine. The only downside is the closeness of the road (which can't be seen), but this is more than compensated by the views from around the swimming pool.

“Lovely place, ideal location for exploring Sicily”

Casale Romano is a lovely place in the perfect location if you want to explore Sicily by car. Excellent service, clean and spacious rooms and good food. Very good value for money as well. The host Sabine and her husband speak English and German and can give you good advice on exploring the island. Occasionally they offer a meal in the evening, which is handy as you will have to drive to get to a restaurant. Breakfast and these dinners were good; all home-made or local produce, plenty of variety and choice. I can really recommend this place.

Area recommendations
Definately go and see: - Etna (and take the cable and truck up to the top, it is worth the hefty ticket price (about $50) - Taormina for shopping, eating and the Greek Theatre - Drive the lovely mountain road to Novara di Sicilia. A pretty and quiet town, impressive views on the way. - Aeolian Islands. Leave really early if you want to see several islands. But a day trip to Lipari and or Vulcano only is doable. - Syracusa and Noto. Both great town to have a wander around. Easy to rach o the motorway.
When to go
September is lovely; still hot temperatures, but not too hot. An odd shower, which usually clears within an hour. Summer is good for lying on the beach, not for sightseeing though.
Getting around
Hire a car, but keep in mind the Italians drive like lunatics.

“Casale Romano - a home from home”

Our 8 days at Casale Romano recently were wonderfully relaxed and enjoyable. Sabina's very welcoming guest house was a perfect location for us as we intended to see the north-eastern part of Sicily using our hire car, which is essential for exploring the mountain villages and Etna. Every day, Sabina made sure that we had everything we needed and gave plenty of helpful suggestions about our daily trips. Having dinner at CR was a central feature of our holiday - it was always simple but delicious home cooked food, so we ate 'at home' six times in all! Our room was perfectly adequate - spacious and airy, with a useful balcony. We enjoyed being able to use the pool area very much as a relaxation after a day out. Although the guest house is on a main road the traffic does not intrude. Sicilian people are lovely and very friendly, the scenery is stunning and the architecture beautiful. Highly recommended.

“Great place off the beaten track”

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Casala Romano for a week and despite initially thinking that perhaps it was too far away from the coast and the more bustling tourist area of Toarmina, we were really glad we did. It was about a 30 min drive to the coast and the main towns, but after spending a day with other tourists we were quite glad to leave it behind and head to the countryside. As all the other reviews have mentioned Sabina and her husband really make you feel at home and always at hand to offer advice about the best beaches to go to or the best routes. We stayed in a superior room on a b&b basis which although not overly fancy and slightly dark was completely fine for what we needed . The only downside was the removal of the fridge, which although there is free bottled water from the kitchen, a fridge in the room would have been nice especially when it was so hot. We really enjoyed the regular home cooked dinners that Sabina offered. I would recommend staying for dinner at least one night of your stay as not only is it very reasonably priced, the quality (and quantity) of food was amazing and in fact we ate there twice. We had a lovely time in Sicily and would recommend Casala Romano if you are looking to get slightly off that beaten track.

Area recommendations
Try the 'Paradise' restaurant a few miles down the road where they serve a fish set menu outside or meat menu inside, or the wonderful little pizzeria at the panoramic viewpoint in the nearby village of Motta Camastra, with wonderful views across the valley and towards Mt Etna.
Getting around
A hire car is essential and in our experience a sat nav too. Even as an experienced London driver, nothing prepared me for driving in Sicily, where people try to over take you at speed at the craziest of places.

“Very pleasant and homely”

Situated on the North East of the island away from the crowded tourist areas, Casale Romano is a beautiful and friendly place to stay. Sabina, her family and their dog Harold made us feel so welcome. They are incredibly proud of the retreat they have created and look after it well. The family live onsite and so were always pottering around if we needed them. Casale Romano is an excellent alternative to the over-priced, over-rated hotels in nearby Taormina. We stayed here for 11 nights and there was plenty to keep us occupied for the whole time. Every two days, Sabina invited us to stay for dinner, which we did four times. Everything is home-grown and her cooking is exquisite. Sabina and her husband love to talk about the food; how it's cooked and it's traditional Sicilian influences. Everything was very reasonably priced. Sabina's knowledge of the local area proved invaluable during our stay. We would let her know our plans every morning and she always knew the best route to take, what to do and see and other attractions to look out for on the way. She even invited us out on the family boat on our last day and then sent us home with armfuls of fresh lemons and oranges picked from the trees in her gardens. As it is quite secluded hiring a car is essential. But more than this, a car is very handy for getting around Sicily in general. I think we would have been at a disadvantage without one. There is ample parking onsite. Wwe couldn't have picked a better place to stay.
