“Good Value Hotel”

This was our second stay at Breaffy House, and we were impressed by the room only price for our family over the two night stay. Our room was excellent - comfortable and spacious and much better located in the building than last time. This is a beautiful country house setting. The pool is also great and much enjoyed by our kids. My only negative comment concerns the area just outside the front door. When we arrived late on Friday evening a college graduation function in the hotel had just ended and there were lost of people about. A number of disgusting smoking girls were standing outside and in the entrance and made little effort to move as we excused ourselves to get past. The following morning they were all gone but their numerous cigarette buts remained all over the ground and in the flower pots outside the front door all weekend. No member of staff was delegated to clean up this unsightly mess, or move the offenders away from the door in the first place. Perhaps staffing is stretched but if one of the usually idle reception staff had spent 10 minutes with a dustpan and brush this mess could have been sorted.

“Fabulous pool, friendly and helpful staff”

Fantastic big room with a large double and 2 single beds. Looked out onto beautiful grounds. The large simiing pool was a hit with my children and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others. Didn't use the restaurant or bar so can't comment on those. Word of advice when using the leisure facilities - leave your valuables in the hotel safe as no locking on the changing room lockers (also no safe in the bedroom). Also bring towels from your room (hotel staff bring you clean towels to your room upon request afterwards) and a bag for your wet swimming costumes as there is no dryer or laundry bags in the changing rooms.

“Make your stay as brief as you can at "Breaffy House"”

The Hotel has changed names but we found the place easily. From the outside its a really impressive building. Reception staff were friendly however would say the place really needs updating. Bedroom was dated but clean and tidy, the TV kept switching itself off the sky channels. Somewhat surly, charm free service, in the bar when we had coffee in the afternoon. Ate in the rather drab and poorly furnished restaurant which, whilst good value; offered a poor menu with poor quality and extremely dated style of food. Gone are the days of the compulsory salad garnish... The Life Spa as they call it was more, Dagenham leisure centre than Henlow grange, full of children and absolutely honking of too much chlorine subsequently gave it a miss... Had a comfortable night although woke up to no hot water whatsoever, apparently the oil delivery hadnt' come! Breakfast was really poor a buffet, more like a bad 70's Tupperware party. Quality of produce again really poor on the cooked breakfast. Although served with a smile, Bless! The hotel is in serious need of some dosh to update it and bring up the standards. Overall pretty disappointing, I couldn't recommend the hotel based on our stay. Such a shame as the building has huge potential. Oh and as a side note, if the hotels interior surroundings don't get you down enough the awful piped music really will! It really was interminable.

“Lovely for Ireland”

This hotel is surrounded by lovely land. It's a little too kid and group friendly for a romantic stay. Only problem was the only internet access is in the library and it is a surf box.

“Fantastic value for money”

We arrived at the hotel and were greeted with a great smile and welcome to the hotel and were advised of all that was available. The room was clean and had a nice view over the grounds. We booked room only but paid for breakfast on arrival. The staff in the dining room were excellent, especially a local older man who seemed to be in charge. He had great conversation and pulled out the chairs before we sat down, he made sure that we sat to quote what he said "so that the sun would not be in our eyes" It was a breakfast buffet and the server at the hot section was very friendly and greeted us with a smile as well. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. my wife and i visited the leisure facilities and they were of a high standard and well supervised. I was amazed that it was only a 3 star and the price that we got on an Easter weekend was well worth the money.

“Can't wait to go back!”

Breaffy House Hotel in Castlebar is wonderful. The room is very large. This is approximately our 8th trip back to this hotel. It's extremely festive during holidays and we always look forward to our stay. I highly recommend it for ambiance, food, service, cleanliness and beautiful room.

Dining
We didn't have a bad mean anywhere! Local pubs are wonderful too. We stayed in the Castlebar are and our favorite small cafe was McCarthy's in Castlebar. The portions are huge with a variety of vegetables. Food is excellent.

“A great place to stay with a wonderful setting (off the highway).”

Very nice hotel and a beautiful setting. We stayed in one of the newer wings of the hotel and the room was very nice.

Traveller's tip
A good location for the sights in the area.

“Would definitely go back”

When we got there, the hotel receptionist explained about the breakfast / dinner voucher system (which seemed a bit strange at first but worked well) . Got to our room and we were both quite impressed with the cleanliness. If I were to be picky, the remote control for the telly wasn't working but we couldn't be bothered to make a fuss. Bar staff very helpful and even gave me a tip for our next trip to Ireland. We were there for a wedding and must say the main wedding meal was probably the best I've had. Overall, very pleased and if I was going back to Castlebar I'd definitely stay there again.

Traveller's tip
Cabs are quite reasonable and using the 'hotline' from the hotel reception was ideal. We only had one cab driver , for three different trips and he was very good. However, would still recommend hiring a car to get around if one or other of you is not going to be drinking.
