We stayed for 2 nights as part of a one week west coast tour. It's a small hotel in the most idyllic location on the water front of Loch Linnhe. There is not much to the village of Port Appin (good news for us) - but you don't want much when you have nature like Loch Linnhe all around. You step out of the front of the hotel, across the beachhead car park and you are on the beach. OK it's a stony beach but what a lovely location. There's a small pier in front of the hotel where a little ferry runs (15 minute trip) to the nearby Lismore Island. We had a delightful family room with double and single (proper single bed not a 'put-you-up') with en suite. The hotel seems to have been refurbished quite recently with good taste . Dinners were top class with seafood dominating - mostly locally caught or reared including off the end of 'their' pier. And the view across Loch Linnhe through the dining room panoramic windows was a joy. Cooked breakfast was one of the best ever. Service was as good as you could hope for - including desk fans in the room due to the 'unseasonally warm weather' - nice touch. We will be goimg back.

We visit Oban around three times a year and always stay in the Oyster Inn. Weather not grea on the Saturday but glorious on the Sunday morning whilst we sat having breakfast looking out over Loch Etive.
Stayed two nights at end of holiday touring Scottish Highlands and could not fault it. Made to feel very welcome and at home by hosts.Lovely house and excellent breakfasts , We had an afternoon flight home from Glasgow so location was ideal for a leisurely drive with a break en route to airport.

Great hotel in a beautiful spot. The room was immaculate with stunning views. It was easy to find and had great facilities.
The only downside was that the king sized bed was just two doubles pushed together. Otherwise it's an excellent hotel.
"Outstanding hotel, despite needing minor upgrades"
The location is excellent. It is about 20 minutes walk or a short cheap taxi ride to the ferry terminal and the railway station if you are using Oban as a centre for visiting the highlands and islands. The staff are helpful and courteous. The full Scottish breakfasts are outstanding, the bar meals are good, and the restaurant, though quite pricey, more or less lives up to its pretensions. The Jacuzzi bath in our room, which I think was standard in all, was a nice feature.
Access to the annex at the back, where most of the rooms are, is awkward; there are 14 stairs before reaching a corridor that leads to the lift, and a number of fire doors to negotiate. This could be a serious obstacle for anyone with mobility problems.
Soundproofing needs to be improved; the walls and floors in the annex were excellent transmitters of footsteps, creaks and plumbing noises, and at the front door is a notice asking people not to talk outside the door late at night because it disturbs the guests.
Despite those quibbles, I would go back there again.
