"Be careful, this hotel is not good for ANY tourist"
I couldn't fault the hotel. The staff were super great, the rooms were spacious and clean. The view was amazing and the breakfast was really good. My overall experience was great.
However, the location is not good if you are a regular tourist, especially if you are coming from the Swiss side (Lugano). The hotel is located on top of a crazy mountain, really bad road, one of the the worst I have ever seen in Europe yet. Moreover, if you go up, there isn't much around but your hotel, you'd need to go all the way down to see places like COMO and Lugano and the road is really not good.

Quaint historic hotel set amid sprawling grounds adjoining a golf course, sited 12 kilometres from the village of Lugano …More
Beautiful views and worth the extra effort in finding it. We discovered Lake Como and the surrounding area and will definitely return and to this hotel. The breakfast was excellent and there was a restaurant only 20 mins away that we could walk to for dinner with a beautiful view. People in the village were friendly and spoke little English. It didn't matter. Thank you to the staff for their excellent service.
Experience Italy as it should be -
When we arrived at La Griglia, I couldn't help but smile! It is set in the most picturesque hill top of Lake Como - away from tourist buses and craziness.
This family owned hotel is beautiful, with friendly, helpful and extremely accommodating staff.
DO eat at their restaurant. The food is excellent and extremely well priced. If you ask what they recommend - they will tell you instead of repeating the specials.
We will definitely return to this hotel at some point - it's literally one of Lake Como's best kept secrets...

A nice hotel, which is about 10 mins drive up the hill, but has spectacular views over the hills to lake como. The staff are all very pleasant and work hard. The rooms are all clean and very well equipped. The restaurant was well priced and did a limited but excellent menu which changes each night.
One of the nicest places we have stayed in Italy. Very close to the Swiss border and the town of Lugano. Facilities were excellent. Staff very helpful and friendly. The grounds were manicured. The spa and the indoor pool were excellent. Outdoor pools were "open" but not heated so too cold to try them. The breakfast was more than the common fare found at the usual European hotels. In fact, the breakfast and the dining rooms were one of the highlights. Room was really a villa with large living area, separate bedroom, dining area and kitchen complete with all the pots, pans, plates and utensils needed to cook a large Italian meal (including strainers, serving bowls, cork screws and different size wine glasses. The town of Porlezza has four grocery stores in or around the area so we cooked most of our meals. We did not try the Resort's restaurant. And there were also many smaller and unique restaurants to explore along the coast highway. Fitness area overlooks Lake Lugano, as did the balcony of our room. This Resort is highly recommended, even for a small family as there are many separate supervised activities for children. One heads up: It is not really close to Malpensa. It took 3 hours plus to get there along SS340, which can be a one lane road, behind buses at times. The road follows Lake Como, then makes a sharp left thru some tunnels towards Lake Lugano, where the Resort is located. We left for Malpensa on a Sunday very early in the morning and made it there within 2 hours
