We stayed at the hotel for a week and was a very good experience. The hotel is quite new, rooms with TV, Air Conditioning, security box and a good bath. However, the bed was not soft as expected (we requested a new one to be able to sleep). Rooms are big with a
The hotel has a casino, a good american breakfast (buffet with juices, fruits, omelet and so on), a nice swimming pool in the third floor but the most notable is the excellent hotel staff (mainly the one that assist on the breakfasts).
Beautiful setting and grounds. The only thing I would suggest would be for Hilton security to better protect guests from the people selling services, etc., on the beach/oceanfront. The security guards mostly sat in the shade on a chair the entire time and didn't really protect guests from annoying people selling drugs, massages (with the suggestion of prostitution as well), fish, etc. The staff inside the hotel and at the pool were terrific but the security guards did nothing to protect guests trying to relax. I enjoy the ocean more than pools so I spent more time in the ocean.
the ocean is very private and very enjoyable but you must run a gauntlet of hustlers to get there. I often felt uneasy about the constant propositions from people trying to sell goods and services at the beach, and felt nervous about leaving my cell phone, etc. at the beach.
I was mislead by the images displayed in Expedia and end up getting a regular room when I thought I was getting a penthouse. I was very upset but have no other choice and dint want to ruin my vacation and decided to stay.
The biggest problem was that there was nobody on staff to let me out of the hotel at 4 AM when I told them I needed to leave to catch a flight.
They lock the doors (with a key) every night. I'd requested that they reserve a taxi for me, but was told that calling a taxi as needed would be no problem. But there was nobody on duty at reception when I went to leave. A note saying I needed a taxi at 4 AM was posted at the reception desk, so the staff should have been aware. Fortunately, the doors were not especially "robust" and I was able to pull them open despite the lock and get out.. Hopefully they weren't permanently damaged. After that I had to walk a few blocks with luggage to find a taxi..
Other than that, the place was fine. A little expensive for what you get, but nothing for the tourist in Caratgena is cheap. It's in a good location in the old city, close to tourist sites, stores, and restaurants. The room wasn't huge but it's perfectly acceptable. My room overlooked the street but had a double door to the balcony to cut the noise. Breakfast was typical - fruit, eggs, toast, juice and a hot drink. Some of the staff speak English (and my passable Spanish did the rest). They have satellite TV and good AC, plus a ceiling fan. But the hotel is on the second floor and there is no elevator, so if you have luggage you need to haul it up the stairs.
"Where I will be staying in Cartagena in the future"
Prone to profound laziness, I rarely take time to reflect on places I have stayed, but the staff and room at the Regatta were so wonderful I just have to pass this along. We (myself, wife and newborn baby) couldn't have asked for a more pleasant or satisfying stay in a great city where people do their utmost to promote not only their hotel, but the city, and country, as well. The rooms are converted apartments, and so are very spacious and comfortable, each with its own unique design, and tons of closet space. The beach is directly out front of the hotel, and towel service is provided, although you need to rent chairs and an umbrella ($12-15 all day) if you desire. The location is perfect, easy walking distance to anything you may need (shopping, food), but for me the staff/maintenance's sincerely pleasant, "we will help with whatever " attitude were a most welcome and pleasant part of a spectacular place to stay. Great price, great service, good buffet (simple, but plentiful with great fruit), make this the place I will be staying in Cartagena in the future.
The hotel was perfectly located. I say perfectly because we were just seconds away from restaurants, souvenir shops, shopping, currency exchange, etc. It's located on a busy street so cabs are constantly passing by...super cheap, by the way; a cab ride to the Walled city (La Ciudad Amurallada) was only about 4-5 pesos ($2-3 dollars). The beach was also only 2 blocks away. The hotel serves a free hot breakfast; a mix of American styled buffet foods and traditional Colombian breakfast foods. The staff was also very attentive and friendly. The only problem we had was that the water was not hot but lukewarm, but I feel this was simply a recurring theme everywhere we went in the country. Overall it was a great and relaxing experience! I would definitely come back again.
