Carmel, Ind., population 70,000, is a suburb of Indianapolis. The city boasts a thriving economy and Conseco and Pearson Education have their headquarters there. Carmel City Center, a new downtown with shopping, office, and residential space near the Art and Design District, will open in early 2010. North Indianapolis is a mostly commercial and residential area.
