"Friendly Village Pub"
On arrival we got a warm welcome from the girl behind the bar who quickly checked us in. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. The bar of the pub was bustling with friendly locals who made people staying at the pub very welcome. The bar also served a very well kept selection of real ales along with a good selection of other drinks. The restaurant was excellent. The chef cooked to a very high standard with ample portions of good quality produce. My wife a I ate there both nights of our stay. The breakfasts matched the quality of the evening meals. It was a thoroughly nice long weekend and I would recommend the Black Bull to anyone as I do not think you will be disappointed.

"Good Hotel"
All aspects of this hotel were very good . In a decent location, however at this time of the year (March) the closest towns , Kirkby Stephen and Brough are very quiet with little going on . Plenty of good, not too strenuous, walking in the near vicinity!

"A short, refreshing break"
We were only able to book for one night (working in retail means Bank Holiday weekends usually happen to other people) but, thankfully this was not a problem. This was the first good thing as a one night stay can often (fairly understandably) be against an establishments policy. We were welcomed very warmly on arrival, shown our very comfortable and thoughtfully stocked room. We were also given lots of suggestions for places to eat (and a booking made for the rather decent pub next door for dinner) and guidance given for a short walk directly behind the B&B (between good old Yorkshire showers). The bed was comfortable and the shower was very refreshing - the horizontal sprays got rid of the back kinks caused by a longish car journey. There were plenty of little touches in the room to make life easier for guests (plenty of towels including a vast bath sheet, good quality toiletries etc) - if we hadn't had to go back to work we would happily have stayed longer! Breakfast was excellent - locally sourced, including their own free-range eggs - and my only worry was that, since we had needed to order what we wanted the night before, I didn't know if I would be hungry enough to do it justice. I needn't have worried - you are always hungry for food that good! I even managed a couple of huge slices of home-made bread. We would happily go back to the Garsdale - maybe during the winter months to test out the dark skies....
