“Wonderful honeymoon”
The room was very clean and comfortable. The owners could not have been more helpful. When we got lost on arrival they came out to find us and guided us to the hotel. They worked out routes for us to visit all the surrounding attractions. The breakfast was more than ample with freshly baked cakes, bread and croissants with a selection of home made jams.
“Mike and Hilary.....Greatest Fans”
The Owners Marlene and Michel are an absolute delight. We were made most welcome and given a tourist map with hand written directions to both the old Cite', and the not quite so old Bastide. As the weather was tending towards rain as we set off on our first walk, Marlene forced a card with her telephone No and instructed us to call her should the rain become too heavy and she would drive out to rescue us!! It is fair to say the Hotel is very very basic, but clean and functional, and above all friendly. If you want state of the art then this is not for you, however should we return to Carcassonne then we would look no further. The final kindness was a lift to the airport for which Michel would not accept payment. Marlene also pressed a jar of home made conserve upon us, unfortunately airport security confiscated this as jam bombs are apparently becoming prevalent!! Marlene and Michel, I think Hilary and I could be your greatest fans. Thanks for everything. We wish you all the success you deserve.
“Everything you need within 15 minutes walk”
The hotel is well situated for everything you will need in Carcassonne. the old city is 15minutes walk which you access over a little bridge over the river behind some houses at the rear of the hotel. The new city, well the less old one anyway (13th centuary) is also a short walk. The main square ibn the newer city is no more than 15 minutes. The train station and the Midi canal..... 20 mins. Perfect placing. We found the rooms clean, colourful and inviting. The owners friendly and helpful. The breakfast more than ample with bread, homemade jams with coffee or tea, as well as cereals and fruit juices. You are allowed use of the garden and the porch at all times. There is a fridge for guests and Madam has no problems with you storing anything you need, and the use of the kitchen is yours if you want to grab a baguette and some wine, cheeses and go eat in the garden. Replacement and selection of tea and coffee in the rooms is a bit hit and miss, but we just brought our own. For 2.5 stars, this hotel is a treat and I have already recommended it to others. Enjoy!!!!
“Comfort in Carcasonne”
The home was easy to find and our room was ready, nicely decorated and clean. Our hosts were friendly and informative. Breakfast was substantial with lots of coffee and croissants. The location is an easy walking distance from the fortress and the main shopping streets. We had a wonderful visit!
“Not Impressed”
Lovely hosts, however, room (yellow walls with stickers) more akin to a hostel rather than a B&B.
“The kindest owners”
We were delayed by 4 days due to volcanic ash closing UK airports. Marlene, the owner, was so kind and helpful, making phone calls, on the internet, letting us use the internet to see BBC news, trying to alleviate our worries - nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel very-much at home. Hotel is delightfully decorated, close to the river and walled Medieval city, and canal boat trips. She recommended restaurants to us and despite the delay and train strike, we really enjoyed our stay in Carcassonne.
“Little Gem Perfect Location”
We stayed in the Maison Sans Frontiere from 28/03/10 for 3 nights and were very pleased. On a arrival we were greeted warmly and given a map and recomendations of what to see and do. The owner speaks good English but no Spanish and of course French. I think there are 5 rooms overall, each with a different 'theme'; for example we were in 'Rio' - a bright, sunny room complete with cacti on the walls, a giraffe and a parrot. It was a little odd at first but our room was large with a juliette balcony. We had a separate bathroom as we were at the end of the hall (I expect this used to be the family bathroom) so it was almost like having a wing to ourselves. We asked for a double but actually had two single beds pushed together - not a problem really as they were SO comfy! Breakfast was continental and a very relaxed affair - in the conservatory at a big table with other guests - not the usual queuing for juice and cereal. There were croissants, bread and cereal with tea, coffee and orange juice. The owner's mother had made a selection of preserves which my partner assures me were delicious. The MSF is in a quiet location, near a military base. It is between the old and new town and took about 10 minutes to get to the new town and about 15-20 to the medieval. I would recommend staying here because it was relaxed, comfortable, good location and most importantly kenly priced. Carcassonne is fairly pricey as a tourist town so the saving made on the hotel made it a cheap break for us.
“Friendly and welcoming home”
We enjoyed our stay at Maison Sans Frontieres. Marlene's warm and open attitude made us feel very welcome. It definitely felt like staying in a home, not in yet another standard hotel. We were able to make tea/coffee in the kitchen whenever we wanted - a real bonus for us. The Maison is only short walk across the river from the old town, so a perfect location. Equally it's not far into the new town, the Canal du Midi and Railway Station. We liked the effort that had been put in to making each room individual, and we enjoyed the India room that we stayed in. Overall this was a lovely stay in a welcoming home with individuality.
“Comfortable Bed and Breakfast”
This B&B is comfortable and homey. It is well located between the old fortified city and the lower town, a 10 - 15 minute walk to the fortress' ramparts. The two storey house has rooms on both levels, is well maintained ( just finished window replacements when we arrived) and decorated based on the owners' travels. The owners speak some English and are extremely welcoming and helpful. (She even did our laundry.) Breakfast was included and was good. You can walk from the train station if your suitcase has wheels. The neighbourhood has atmosphere, a park along the river with a view of the fortress and is secure, being next to a small military installation. Carcassonne is a good place to visit.
“Charming base for Carcassonne”
Charming hosts who made us feel at home. Parking is on the street, but was safe. Rooms colourful and spacious - beds not that comfortable but adequate. Plenty of hot water for relaxing shower. Homemade preserves a real treat with breakfast. Day excusion suggested by hosts was the highlight of the holiday. Value for money and would stay there again if visiting Carcassonne.
