“Magical Location”

It was magical to stay within the city walls of such an ancient site and watch the city wake slowly without the tourists. The room was right upstairs from a pub with live music, so it didn't quiet down until past midnight, but the comfort of the room and the location more than compensated.

“Excellent location within medieval city walls”

I'd recommend Le Donjon very highly. Our room was charming, as were the hotel staff. The hotel was in a fabulous location, within the medieval city walls, and had been tastefully and sympathetically decorated. The breakfast was not included in our room tariff, so we opted to eat it elsewhere. We cannot, therefore, comment on the quality of the food!

“Good facilities in an ancient city centre”

Carcassone has two or three wirings of castle walls and is situated on the crest of a hill. Vehicle access is prohibited or discouraged The hotel has a central building and two annexes all the buildings are hold and inbuilt into the walls and ancient fabric of the city Our bags were brought from the city walls by a small van while we walked through the narrow crowded streets. We were in the Compte Roger Annexe which has maybe 6 rooms. Breakfast is taken in the main building - or rather in a garden behind the main building. The room was comfortable, well air conditioned and clean. One cant beat the location for character and interest. There are many places to eat and drink and much history to assimilate. Staff were courteous and helpful Only downside is that the hotel is expensive. The cost with breakfast is over £150per night. However there are few comparative opportunities

“Lovely hotel in fantastic location”

Couldn't believe our luck in booking the hotel inside the Cite of Carcassonne. Although you cannot park inside the Cite during the day, the hotel runs a very efficient guest collection service from the designated car park outside the walls and will also park your car in secure garage if you wish(extra!). Hotel breakfast was OK but avoid the rubbery scrambled eggs! Its worth taking some time to explore the castle and if possible tour the battlements too.

“We'll be back!”

Loved it - we'll be back! We stayed in Carcassonne for one night in February - cool during the day, cold at night - the room (in the main building) was clean, quiet and comfortable with a view across rooftops to a pointed round tower (we had to open the windows to let some heat out but the radiators had thermostatic valves so we soon got the temperature balanced). Comfy bed, clean and modern bathroom with bath and a good shower. We ate at the brasserie where the food was good but there seemed to be a slight indifference to clients without a reservation - even though there was plenty of space - probably worth booking through reception next time. After dinner we strolled through empty mediaeval streets and round the atmospheric town walls - we had the place to ourselves and it was brilliant! It's a bit of a pain having to get the car out of town by 10am but it really isn't far to walk and the hotel operates a minbus to take you and your luggage to your car when you eventually decide to drag yourself away. Enjoy!

“Very good. Nice friendly central hotel.”

Very comfortable and clean hotel. Nice central location with many restaurants near by. You canmnot drive through streets to it in July and August until after 7.00pm but free car park within minutes walk of hotel. Great place to stay.

“Carcassonne's hotel of excellence”

Being one of only two hotels within the city walls, it was worth the extra expense to be living within the walls of this beautiful city. Heartily recommended, nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

“Really enjoyed Carcassonne”

Rooms quite tiny, but very comfortable and in our opinion worth a higher rating than three star. Fabulous position in the old city.
