“Great hotel shame about the unfriendly reception desk.”
Great Hotel, great setting but let down by unfriendly and unhelpful receptionist. Also the rooms only had two coffee sachets in the room. Had to keep asking for more coffee.
“Really great place to stay.”
Really great place to stay, easy to get to from Station (Gare) and in walking distance from everything.
“Very nice city and hotel”
We stayed in Maison des Ramparts which was fine but the map to find it from the main reception was difficult to follow, we had to ask for assistance from the staff who didn't look too impressed! Other than this we had a fantastic stay, the hotel is in a great location and the room was well equipped and kept very clean.
“Good facilities in an ancient city centre”
Carcassone has two or three wirings of castle walls and is situated on the crest of a hill. Vehicle access is prohibited or discouraged The hotel has a central building and two annexes all the buildings are hold and inbuilt into the walls and ancient fabric of the city Our bags were brought from the city walls by a small van while we walked through the narrow crowded streets. We were in the Compte Roger Annexe which has maybe 6 rooms. Breakfast is taken in the main building - or rather in a garden behind the main building. The room was comfortable, well air conditioned and clean. One cant beat the location for character and interest. There are many places to eat and drink and much history to assimilate. Staff were courteous and helpful Only downside is that the hotel is expensive. The cost with breakfast is over £150per night. However there are few comparative opportunities
“Disappointed”
As our only flight option from Glasgow to Carcassonne was early morning we duly arrived at Le Donjon Hotel at 10.30am. Although we were aware that check in was 3pm we thought that under the circumstances we could have access to our room earlier than 3pm. This was not to be and after wandering the mediaeval city for 4 hours our deluxe room was not in the least deluxe and faced a grey brick wall. Only after complaining did we get a decent room. A 3 night stay in Carcassone is too much and one night would have been quite enough. Another major draw back is that you have to drag your cases from the entrance to La Cite to the hotel which is all uphill on cobbled streets. FROM THE MOMENT YOU ENTER LA CITE UNTIL YOU LEAVE YOU ARE RIPPED OFF FOR EVERYTHING FROM A MEAL TO A BOTTLE OF WATER. WE WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS CITY AGAIN. THE HOTEL SHOULD RUN A COURTESY BUS FROM THE ENTRANCE TO THE HOTEL !!!!!!!!
“carsassonne”
hotel is right in the middle of the castle so it was great to walk around at night without all of the tourists! Only issue is parking-hard to get car to secure parking place (can park outside the gate) and with a bigger car it was tight to drive thru the streets
“We'll be back!”
Loved it - we'll be back! We stayed in Carcassonne for one night in February - cool during the day, cold at night - the room (in the main building) was clean, quiet and comfortable with a view across rooftops to a pointed round tower (we had to open the windows to let some heat out but the radiators had thermostatic valves so we soon got the temperature balanced). Comfy bed, clean and modern bathroom with bath and a good shower. We ate at the brasserie where the food was good but there seemed to be a slight indifference to clients without a reservation - even though there was plenty of space - probably worth booking through reception next time. After dinner we strolled through empty mediaeval streets and round the atmospheric town walls - we had the place to ourselves and it was brilliant! It's a bit of a pain having to get the car out of town by 10am but it really isn't far to walk and the hotel operates a minbus to take you and your luggage to your car when you eventually decide to drag yourself away. Enjoy!
“Magic 3 night break in Carcassone..”
Great value, perfectly placed hotel with friendly staff. The setting just could not be beaten, fabulous views over the surrounding countryside to the Pyrennies mountains. 10/10 !
“Romantic setting and hotel with historic character”
