Stayed one night and have stayed here quite a few nights before. Pleasant lobby, quiet comfortable rooms, nice stay. Take a right out of the elevator to the quiet lobby or a left door drops you in a noisy, folksy irish bar like you have just teleported. Close to the subway, Capitol Hill, and Amtrak, with a nice mall in Union Station.
We chose the Hyatt because of being close to Union Station where we were arriving on Amtrak. Reviews on the TripAdvisor were also for the most part favorable.
Everything was exactly as we would expect and hope for-no bad surprises, very comfortable, excellent buffet breakfast, clean and convenient to everywhere we wanted to go. Easy automatic check-in.
Ferdinand in the restaurant served us both mornings and was very personable and helpful-when we go back again we'll look for him.
Most of the things we wanted to see were in and around the Mall. The Hyatt is at the east end of the Mall making it an easy several block walk to get there.
We visit D.C. at least a couple of times a year and we'll use the Hyatt again.
The hotel is clean, colorful, and modern-looking and the staff members were very friendly. There is a Corner Bakery next door and plenty of dining and shopping options in UnionStation, which is a quick 5-minute walk from Union Station. The Capitol building is also just a couple of blocks away. Chinatown is also nearby (although the walk takes you through very unpopulated areas, at least on the weekends--the 7 blocks to Chinatown are lined with empty office and court buildings, which can be intimidating if walking alone). Cabs are available both in front of the hotel and around the corner in front of the two neighboring hotels should you prefer not to walk. The hotel will also happily hold your bags after you check out so you don't have to carry them around while doing last-minute sight-seeing.
Really great experience all around. Pool, hot tub, and gym were all a delight. My room was spacious and comfortable. The staff went out of there way to help me and remembered who I was the next day! The location isn't the best, but it's certainly not the worst. Excellent stay :)

Lawmakers handle the nation’s business at the US Capitol, where Freedom peers across the land atop her perch on the rotunda. Many members of Congress live in the brick row houses near the Capitol complex. Across the street, the Supreme Court—the third branch of government—interprets the law. Nearby, the restored Union Station is a transit terminal and dining hotspot.
