“great location for cape town waterfront”
This hotel was a perfect inexpensive location for Capetown tourist activities - it is just a block up the hill from the main Cape Town V and A waterfront which houses lots of shopping and restaurants and access to bus trips and other tourist activities. The staff was helpful and friendly. The only downsides were the mini bar was empty the whole time i was there, room cleaning service was a bit 'off" some days, and the bar/restaurant areas were quite empty. For a more lively bar/restaurant scene, just walk across the parking lot to their sister hotel, The Commodore. But overall, a great inexpensive place to stay with a perfect location - the staff was most helpful getting me taxis etc. Recommended!
“Will visit again”
Hotel has a great location and you can use the Commodore Hotel across the road also. Breakfast is excellent and they'll do breakfast boxes if you have to check out early. Free internet use in business centre. The V&A Waterfront is so close with great restaurants, shops and entertainment. The Ferryman Pub has brilliant meals - recommend the steak & calamari. Mario's is walking distance on Main Road opposite the stadium with homemade pasta. Few doors down is a drop off laundry for only 49 rand for 5kg wash and dried in a day. African Cafe near Gold Musuem is incredible example of art and has great cookies or eat in lunches. Cape Town is a safe, clean city with fantastic food, shopping, art and friendly people. Would highly recommend a visit.
“Great location for V & A waterfront”
The location of this hotel to South Africa's premier tourist site the V & A Waterfront, cannot be beaten for the price. Out the door, across the carpark, down the stairs, across the zebra crossing and you enter V & A through the craft shops. This would take less than five minutes and is very secure. You are also very near to the hop on/hop off tour bus of Cape Town and the Rodden Island ferry. The hotel is first class, great service, good food and very comfortable. Try the excellent combination omelette for breaky. The negatives were that they charged twice for the laundry and had noisy maintenance being carried out in another room. Both these issues were quickly addressed by management. Top Hotel would not hesitate to return.
“Great Location; Fantastic service”
Staying at Portswood V&A was a wonderful experience; the location is fantastic, close to the waterfront and very near to the craft market - perfect after shopping! All the staff at Portswood are very courteous; they changed our room when we requested for a different view. Room and toilet are spacious enough for 2 and they offer turn down service as well. The breakfast service is very good; lots of fresh fruits and honeycomb and you can order your hot breakfast a la carte as part of the breakfast service without paying extra. When we needed our rental car, the concierge ensures that our car is ready for us at the front of the hotel. It has been a pleasure to stay at Portswood; definitely highly recommended!
“Good One”
I was looking for a safe, clean hotel, with friendly service, at a reasonable rate, and that is exactly what I got. Like the previous reviewer, my rate included breakfast and internet, which was excellent value. The rooms are not brand new, but fine for what I wanted. Excellent hotel location, friendly staff. No complaints about my stay. Would definitely stay there again.
“Outstanding quality”
Hotel & staff far exceeded my expectations. Perfret location for V&A waterfront & to see surrounding areas. Staff very courteous & helpful. Hotel was very clean & overall well maintained. Beds were very comfortable & cosy hotel even do evening service where towels are changed and general tidying of room is done aswell as preparing bed for guest to sleep in by folding back quilt & leaving a peice of chocolate saying 'sweet dreams' on bed. Quality of breakfast was also of good standard, warm food is made on request.
“Better Than Expected”
Not being familiar with the city, I am glad I decided to go with the Portswood. The hotel was excellent and had a very friendly and helpful staff. My expedia.com rate included breakfast and internet everyday. The hotel is a one minute walk to the Waterfront area with shopping, dining, cinema, aquarium and so on. This area is open late so you won't be bored in the evenings. The concierge can arrange tours and transportation. This was a very beautiful and cozy hotel and I was extremely satisfied.
“Portswood Hotel”
I believe the word (convenient) will be suitable if we talk about the price, the location, the cleanliness, the comfort or even the friendly way of treating the customers. I loved the hotel and do recommend this hotel to anyone wants to visit Cape Town
“great location”
great service. Staff helpful and made effort to feel welcomed. Small rooms. Walking distance to Waterfront restaurants and shops. Great breakfast included.
“Well located, good service and reasonably priced”
This is an incredibly well located hotel near the water front. It doesn't cost the earth and benefits from access to facilities at the more expensive sister hotel, The Commodore, which is part of the same complex. Excellent, friendly staff. The breakfasts are extremely good and included in the price. We arrived early after an overnight flight from London and the staff were extremely accommodating, allowing us to check in early. Would definitely go back.
