“Good Hotel at a Very Convenient Location with Good Food”
This hotel is at a great location and has a fairly good restaurant. The strengths include free internet, large safe in the room, refrigerators in rooms, great breakfast buffet, good cold beer at the lounge, and concierge staff that are ready to call cabs and arrange trips. I cannot think of any weaknesses other than (possibly) the fact that, for security reasons, in order to close the door from outside (as in going out), one has to shut it closed, which can be noisy in the middle of the night (that did not bother us, but I do not know of other guests). For some travelers it might also be of some interest that our room did not have a flat-screen TV (perhaps there are some available in other rooms). Cape Town has so much to offer, there is so much to do outside, that we did not watch any TV during the entire 9-day stay, so this was not a problem for us. The reliability and availability of the internet more than made up for the TV being a little dated. I strongly recommend this hotel to an average traveler for whom convenient location, safety, reasonable comfort, and value are of importance. Thank you for reading my opinion.
“Excellent choice!”
We were in Capetown for 5 nights, and choosed The Commodore Hotel because of his location and price. Although the hotels located in the Waterfront region are very expensive, The Commodore had a reasonable price. It is a very good 4 star hotel. The room was spacious and nice, the breakfast was good and the location was perfect!! The staff could be more helpful, but we didn´t have any problem with that. I strongly recommend this hotel, specially for its location. If you are going to Capetown, specially in holiday, the Waterfront is the place to stay.
“Business Traveller en-route to St Helena Island”
This hotel is not only well placed in Cape Town but also makes a wonderful venue for business meetings, with all of the modern facilities one could ask for, however beware of making IDD calls from the hotel without checking the rates being charged first. For example, the standard rate charged for calls to South Africa by Cable & Wireless in St Helena is £0.85 per minute, whereas the hotel charged more than THREE times as much for a call in the other direction ~ ZAR 765.99 for 24:26 mins, which came as quite a shock on check-out!
“Good "old" Hotel.”
This hotel is a little old. Good location, 4 min walk to the Waterfront shopping / restaurant area. The room was clean, but the hotel was showing it's age. Bed was comfortable& the shower great (lots of water pressure). The breakfast was excellent. So for the price of this 4 star it was a good deal. That area is a little pricy, so if you are on a budget, or littlerally just looking for a place to sleep, it's great. If you are looking for a luxury destination hotel, you may want to pass.
“Excellent, friendly hotel”
Excellent hotel, extremely friendly, nothing too much trouble.
“Excellent hotel in great location!”
Lovely hotel situated just walking distance from the V&A Waterfront. Felt safe on walk round, however as we had our 9 year old daughter with us we were never that late. Room very clean and comfortable with great views over Table Mountain. Breakfasts were excellent with a great variety and had option of having omlettes etc cooked to your request. Stafff extremely helpful- sorted out any trips we wanted and also arranged transport to Table Mountain(not that expensive) We also did the Peninsula tour which was great, got to visit the Cape of Good Hope. Prices for drinks/food were reasonable compared with hotels at home. We'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone travelling as V&A waterfront is where you want to stay as it's a beautiful area where lots of lovely shops and restaurants.
“Great location”
Great central location which allows quick access to tourist attractions particularly for short stays.
“Good Location”
The Commodore V&A Waterfront provides convenient access to waterfront attractions and restaurants. We stayed in the Balmoral Castle Suite with balcony views of both Table Mountain and the harbor. The accomodations were clean and comfortable. Our one dinner in the hotel restaurant was very good. The proximity to the harbor also was convenient because we arrived by cruise ship.
“Good But Not Great!”
Commodore hotel advertisement present a view that I did not really have although I tried two different room locations. The view may be better on the top two floors but believe it or not those floors are for people who smoke. It is a 6 story hotel and we stayed on the 4th floor. We had a balcony which was small and without furniture. We saw a little of the waterfront but mostly the top of another building from our room. The area we were in was the waterfront. That I believe is the main draw of the hotel. It is a nice shopping and eating area and is safe to be in any time of day or night. Otherwise there was nothing special about the hotel. By American standards breakfast was great. By African hotel standards however it was mediocre. Only on the 3rd day did I realize that one could ask for items such as large glasses or waffles that were not laid out in the buffet style eating area. It is a decent hotel in a nice location and when on sale it might be less expensive than other hotels in the vicinity. I had a better time in a mere 3 star hotel "the Ritz" in the past in terms of food and service. However the furnishings at the Commodore are superior and the location is much nicer. It is also closer to downtown Cape Town where I did a lot of sight seeing. I don't think I will stay there when I return for the next jazz festival but there is nothing wrong with this hotel.
“Very close to Waterfront”
Very close to Waterfront, for the price would stay there again.
