“Not Impressed”

Didn't appear that the staff for this apartment had any interest in our visit. I know it was off season but no one made an effort until asked to show us how things worked or where things could be located in the complex/apartment. The phone for the room didn't work all week so if there was an emergency I'm not sure what we would have done. My daughter called the main guest house while I was away and was told not to worry we weren't dead. Disappointing visit.

“I'll be back”

The Sunshine Letting Apartments is actually named Planet Africa and is situated in Sea Point, about two blocks from the sea front. It is a block of self contained apartments. I stayed in a studio apartment in the new block. The studio was perfect. A full kitchen, double bed and lounge area (with sofa bed), flat screen TV with satellite (although not all the channels were available) and an en suite bathroom. The lounge also had double opening french doors which let the sunlight and fresh air in. There was also a space outside for free car parking. 50 metres away from the apartment was the main road with two large supermarkets and a wide range of eateries (be wary of walking around after dark!!). If you have any problems, you have to walk a couple of blocks to the Sunshine Villa. The people there are very nice and will help you book tours etc. I would definitely stay again if i visit Cape Town.

Sea Point and V & A Waterfront

Traveller's tip

It is better to hire a car since there is no public transport from the airport nor are there any buses in Cape Town so getting around if you don't have a car can be a problem (and expensive if you use taxis). Transport between Sea Point and The V&A Waterfront/Cape Town is provided by small minibuses (5 rand) which only the locals seem to use and they seem to stop running after dark. I was a little nervous of using them, but eventually took the plunge and although they travelled a limited route, proved to be rather handy. I had a fantastic time and loved the country but like many big cites in South Africa, you have to keep your wits about you and be extra vigilant and careful about where you walk especially after dark.
