“Thankyou Capetown”

Great suite, even a washer/drier and iron. Very well situated - no car needed in Capetown. Staff extremely helpful and breakfasts very good.

V&A Waterfront - to stay near. All the city and surrounds fantastic.

During our winter - avoid their school holidays.

Getting there

Overnight from Heathrow - no jet lag. One is straight in.

Dining

Can't go wrong. From really upmarket to cheap and cheerful. All good. And of course wonderful wine.

Outdoors or beach

The bays are beautiful - but don't dip any toes in the Atlantic - freezing.

“Going the extra mile”

We loved our large comfortable room, as big as a suite, and the great breakfast spread. The hotel was a 10 minute walk from the buzzing waterfront area with lots of restaurants and bars yet in a much quieter part of town. What made our visit memorable, though, was the extra effort shown by the hotel staff to make our trip memorable. One evening we had been invited to a jazz club out of town. The taxi driver had never heard of the venue. Hearing this, the concierge looked it up online, then rang the venue so that the taxi driver could get directions from the proprietor. She then told the proprietor when to expect us. The jazz club turned out to be a gem hidden in the middle of an industrial estate where we had a great evening. South Africa has a reputation for being a risky destination so we really appreciated the care taken for our safety and enjoyment.

Area recommendations

We recommend spending some time both downtown (somewhere near the waterfront) and further afield, such as in Stellenbosch, a beach area (eg Muizenberg) or in suburban Newlands where there is a quieter pace and a great view of the other side of Table Mountain.

Dining

Capetown is a wonderful food bowl and it shows in the quality of the produce used in the dining scene. We sampled quite a bit of the local fareand the following comprises our best dining experiences. Downtown it is worth seeking out Bizerca for fresh modern cuisine, presented with flair. The waterfront area can be very noisy. In that area, for a more relaxed atmosphere with a great view across the water back towards Table Mountain, the Belgian tavern Dem Anker is hard to beat. On the other side of Table Mountain, the restaurants in the Vineyard Hotel have extensive wine lists and high quality food. In Stellenbosch wine district, lunch at Keine Zalze offers the chance to match their excellent wines with classy but simple dishes. If heading round the coast, there is a lovely fish restaurant right on the pier at Kalk Bay.

“Apartment hotel for family”

Apartment room with kitchen as we had booked but pleasantly suprised by size of apartment and the equipment. The hotela llowed us to check into the room early after an early morning flight arrival. We used the hotel for 8 days as a base for exploring the cape and with free secure car parking it was ideal. we could also easily walk into town or to the waterfront. Great to come 'home' and be able to cook especially when you have kids to cater for. Good service, fantastic brakfast.

“Excellent hotel”

“Affordable yet very comfortable Cape Town Hotel”

This is a very nice all Suite hotel in the downtown area. The rates are affordable and the rooms are fantastic. Very large and well equipped. The breakfast buffet was one of the best we've had and the staff is very attentive.

“Cape Town Convenience”

This was a mid-point along our 3 weeks on the road and came at a perfect point. Everything we needed was available in our unit, including a washer/dryer machine, iron and board, dishes, etc. These are apartments, not just hotel rooms, and are very comfortable, convenient and conveniently located. Additionally, breakfast was great with a wide selection of items available. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

“Amazing accommodations at 50% off”

We were delightfully surprised by the quality of this hotel for the price we paid with the 50% discount available on Expedia. The location was excellent, the staff were professional and helpful, the room -- apartment, really -- was spacious and beautifully appointed, and the breakfast was outstanding. Highly recommended at the discounted rate!
