“nice hotel at reasonable rate”

The hotel might look abit dated, need some modenisation at the lobby area, however, the service was excelent.. the room was nice and clean and just got to love the revolving restaurant on the top of the hotel. The view was fantastic and food was marvelous!.. Highly recommended! Oh not to mention about the warm hospitality of the staffs!

“Not impressed, not good value”

Whilst a reasonably good location for visiting all the attractions and with a range of nearby eateries, the hotel requires updating, lots of maintenance and a good clean of bedrooms, lifts and public rooms. The Ritz would seem to favour coach parties, there were several daily, mainly noisy ones including two of over excited school children. Not really the place for an independant traveller.

“Fair for the money.”

Hotel was a good value, clean, efficient and in a good area to see the sights of SA.

“We'll be back!”

Taking into account the age of the hotel this provided all the basic requirements for a holiday which was chiefly picked for its location, cost and ease of accessibility to all transport links. The staff were unfailingly helpful, particularly in the restaurant where we felt we were greeted as old friends. The breakfast was more than adequate with lovely fresh fruit and, should you wish it, hot meals were freshly cooked to order. The hotel fulfilled all our requirements, which were for a high, quiet room (it's not their fault that the neighbouring guests were so inconsiderate at times especially the South American Girls' Hockey Clubs who turned night into day). The room itself was very vulnerable with an archaic key system which we, along with others, found difficult to open and not very satisfactory from the security point of view. Being in a deluxe room on the 16th floor the view from the wrap-around windows was breathtaking but the downside was that when it was windy - which was most nights - they rattled most alarmingly which could be thought of as a good thing as it helped to drown out the very irritating grating of the air conditioning even when switched off. Summing up, these few niggles were vastly outweighed by the friendliness of the staff, the reasonable cost, its cleanliness and ideal location which felt safe even after dark and we would definitely use this hotel again, the sooner the better!!!

Area recommendations
Everywhere is just wonderful. The highlights were, obviously the always vibrant Waterfront, the lovely promenade at Sea Point stretching to Bantry Bay including the many modern bars and restaurants along Main Road which is now being given a much-needed 'facelift' and new block-paving making it a great attraction and Camps Bay with its marvellous beach and trendy crowd.
Getting around
Public transport both to the Waterfront and the City is a cheap and reliable mode of transport. The buses are clean and frequent and the drivers helpful. The many small vans which operate all over the city are not to be feared and are a cheaper alternative to the bus. The Red and Blue sightseeing buses are an absolute boon and in the summer a 2 day pass includes a free night tour up to Signal Hill to see the sun go down. The Blue bus now covers a side trip to Groot Constantia, the oldest winery in SA which is well worth a visit.

“Good location by the sea.”

We had a bright room with windows that opened from which we could see the sea and the mountain. We could even see the mountain from the shower! A desk and chair made comfortable working conditions. The neighborhood had a selection of comfortable restaurants and bars, and the beach promenade was just several blocks away. It was beautiful at sunset. We used a taxi to get to the center city; it was a bit too far to walk.

Area recommendations
Sea Point for relaxing. City Bowl for sightseeing.

“Loved Cape Town - looking forward to our next visit to South Africa”

The decor in the Ritz is perhaps a little dated but the hotel is clean and tidy and the staff and service were very good. The revolving rooftop restaurant is a must - good food and fantastic views. Remember to check prices elsewhere before booking your trips and tours - we did and then went back to the hotel travel operator who matched the prices that were available down at the waterfront! Cape Town is a fantastic city with lots to see and do - we will certainly go again. Always get picked up and dropped off at the hotel door if you are using taxis - we used the waterfront bus service and found it to be cheaper and very frequent (every 20 mins). We experienced no problems in South Africa, but we were approached and asked for money on our evenings at the waterfront area.

“Not the best hotel to stay in Cape town”

Good prices, 3-4 miles from the city center, bar is not good, wine house downstairs is good, the rooms beside elevators are extremely noisy, Internet is really expensive, car park is affordable, no public transportation to and from. Higher floor rooms offer a good view especially table mountain side. Try staying in waterfront or city center area.

Area recommendations
visit waterfront, table mountain, robben island, cape of good hope, waterfront, try all the restaurants there, rent a car and go to cape agulhas, visit vineyards,

“Average Hotel”

Hotel has cafe/bar, good swimming pool area, note the water is cold and an impressive revolving restaurant on the 21st floor with amazing views, well worth a visit. The bar on the 20th floor however is aimed at smokers which was a great shame. The cafe/bar on the 1st floor was comfortable and served a very good buffet breakfast (a tip is to include that with your booking, it is cheaper that way). Staff helpful and friendly and will book airport shuttle cheaper than a taxi.V&A waterfront is a comfortable walk along beach road and is quite safe. The area near the hotel is a bit rundown and the restaurants didn't look too exciting. The room was modern and functional, bathroom was very sad, cracked tiles, black mould along bath screen, damaged bottom of bath and chain fixxing hanging out. The floor was never vacuumed in either room and bedding just seemed to be tidied but linen not changed in the six nights we were there. There was plenty of hot water and the shower good. Overall value for money was good but things could be improved.

Area recommendations
Seapoint is only a mile from the Waterfront and hotels are cheaper here and beach road is good to sit and watch the world go by. The V&A waterfront is vibrant with shops, restaurants and street entertainers. Robben Island, Table Mountain and the Hop On/Hop Off bus are the things to do.

“Excellent Location in Sea Point Area near Ocean”

The Ritz is located in an excellent area of Sea Point within walking distance to area restaurants and the ocean. The hotel itself is nice: good food in the restaurants and a nice pool and deck area. The hotel rooms were average, but clean. The views from this high rise hotel are incredible. For the value, I would highly recommend staying at the Ritz. Excellent value with an excellent location.
