Great location we could walk to long street that had all the bars and restaurants. Also the rooftop bars were close and walking distance as well. There are a lot of homeless people around. But I found that’s in every downtown area and was in the same in Johannesburg. They do not bother you and at no time did we feel unsafe. We had a full kitchen with dishes. The only negative was that our washer and dryer was not working properly so we were unable to wash our clothes.
We stayed for 7 nights
Parking was easy and 75 rand a day
WiFi was great always accessible
Restaurant in the building was reasonably priced and food was ok.
I cannot say enough about the location of this hotel close to everything 10 mins drive to table mountain
10 mins drive to VA waterfront.

Friendly and attentive staff, well maintained property, unfortunately lots of vagrants in the area, does not feel safe to walk to a restaurant for dinner even though there are lots of options less than a couple hundred meters away.
Time for Business, the City and Government to work at solving the issue.

Dear JW
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.
There are two excellent restaurants in Mandela Rhodes Place building with 24 hour security.
We are working close in conjunction with the CCID in the CBD to better the streets of Cape Town. This is an ongoing project.

Loved the spacious rooms for a family trip. It is also excellent in terms of location. Breakfast and dinner spots downstairs and a healthy supermarket with everything under the sun opposite the front doors. Parking is available but would have been great if the room key worked to open the boom instead of needing the guards to open and close the gate. It is relatively safe but did feel hesitant to walk around late at night in this location. Lots of tourist attractions nearby!

Had a great stay in Cape Town and the hotel had a really good quality. Excellent rooms. But the area did not work for me.

Together with the CCID and other Hotels we are looking at improving the areas around the hotel.
We stayed in a studio room. Overall, a great stay. Clean and friendly staff. The only complaint would be the bathroom which always floods the whole bathroom floor after every shower.

Overall we had a great stay at Mandela Rhodes. The rooms are spacious and come equipped with everything we needed. Service was great, and the room was always clean. We did, however, find the bed to be very, very uncomfortable and very small. For reference, I’m 5’7 and my feet were hanging off the bed the whole time. Also, we had several issues with the shower and sink leaking. These problems were fixed quickly, but it was uncomfortable spending 6 nights in a wet bathroom.

Dear Paul
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback and thank you or giving us the opportunity to rectify the uncomfortable situation for you.
Upon arriving at Mandela Rhodes Place, we notice that the lobby looked more like an office building lobby than a hotel and were a bit worried about our choice. Those worries were quickly put to rest upon entering our room. The room was more of an apartment than a hotel room, which was perfect for the three of us. Some wanted to stretch out and relax while others needed to work. There were two large bedrooms with comfortable beds along with two and a half baths. Each bedroom had a tv and there was a large tv in the living room. The bathrooms were plenty large with good water pressure in the showers. There was a well-appointed kitchen ~ even a washer. There was a kitchen bar and a conference table dining/work table. The living room was large and had a wonderful view of the mountain. There was even a nice balcony with a table and chairs, though the weather was a bit cold for that.
The hotel is located within a very short walk to many attractions and restaurants. And the City Sightseeing hop-on hop-off bus is just minutes away.
It is not the very comfortable room or excellent location that put Mandela Rhodes so high on our list - it was the staff. They knew we were on a celebratory trip and provided us with delightful welcoming treats. Anything we asked for or needed, they were right there ~ going above and beyond. We could not be more thankful for the kindness, consideration, and thoughtfulness of all of the staff.
For us this is the only place to stay in Cape Town

Thanks to hotels.com, the room was upgraded to a two bedroom apartment with a fully equipped kitchen. Room for four people. The hotel's location is central with numerous restaurants and supermarkets in easy walking distance.

The hotel is located in the heart of Cape Town, near to the judicial buildings. Walking distance to the outdoor markets for curios and restaurants and coffee shops. The only thing that I did not like was the hallway layout leading to the guest apartments. If the architects of this building were trying to replicate a prison then they nailed it! The apartments have windows that look out to the hallway and then the hallway looks out to the exterior. Then the hallway on higher floors are on a balcony where you can look down to the lower floors, like you would in a prison. This did not feel inviting at all. But once you enter into the apartment, the layout and decor is very warm and cozy. And the bedroom was very comfortable. Our particular unit had an amazing view of table mountain.

Cape Town problems.
The immediate area was ok but would have appreciated knowing which roads were safe and which were not.
I had my phone stolen by a pick pocket in Long street which is just around te corner and quite notorious for this, which we later found out is general knowledge locally.
Then on the third day money was taken from our room. We counted some money out for the evening meal and went to the pool for 40
minutes. When we returned the money was gone.
After a lengthy investigation by management and police which revealed the cleaner and maintainance man had both been in the room during that time we were told we should have put all valuables in the safe as the many notices around the hotel indicates. So no money returned !
If going to Cape Town I would advise being at the waterfront or at one of the beach areas.
But be on your guard anyway.

Shower that leaked on the floor. Bathroom furniture that was falling apart. Noisy air heating unit. Dirty, scuffed and tired throughout. My “suite” was right next to a car park. Nothing like the lovely pictures... pity as it’s in a good location.

Thank you for visiting Mandela Rhodes Place Suite Hotel recently and sharing your experience with us. My team and I are delighted to note you enjoyed your stay with us. It makes me extremely proud when we have lived up to the ethos of “Ubuntu” and with this, have created an exceptional experience for our guests. This in turn will hopefully ensure that Mandela Rhodes Place becomes your “home” when next in Cape Town. We look forward to welcoming you back in the hopefully not too distant future.
Easy access to all areas of Cape Town. Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Tour office in the hotel reasonably priced and staff there also really helpful.

Wouldn't recommend
We checked in to this hotel for the last night of our vacation. As an expedia VIP, I was told there would be a free bottle of wine for us at check in, however it wasn't in the room and we had to call down to reception 3 times before someone finally brought it up 45 minutes later. There was also no WiFi in the room, which I think is completely unacceptable and it's false advertising that the hotel states there is WiFi in the rooms when apparently it has been "under repair" for many weeks.
We also had a late flight the next day and so we asked for late check out when we checked in. The receptionist said that we should come back in the morning to speak with the manager but he was sure they would be able to accommodate us. When we spoke to the manager in the morning, she said that we could check out 1 hour late, otherwise it would cost 200 Rand/hour, even though the hotel wasn't even close to being full. We accepted the additional hour, however when we returned to our room at 11:20 our key no longer worked so we had to spend 15 minutes going back down to the lobby and having the key reset. We were also interrupted twice by housekeeping asking what time we would be leaving.
Overall not a good experience for the price and I would not stay here again.
Fantastic staff and great location.

Didn’t like the fact that I had to pay R75.00 per night for parking.
WiFi service was down.
The carpets were not vacuumed/cleaned on a daily basis if at all.
Some of the cooking utensils were not properly cleaned and in the kitchen cupboards
Furniture needs upgrading or replacement - the wear and tear is visible

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
We are terribly sorry we let you down in not vacuuming the carpets daily, this is certainly unacceptable and our team have taken note of this, we humbly apologise for this oversight. The parking fee is standard within the City centre and charged by most Hotels in our area, that said we will certainly take note of your dislike of this and perhaps in the future we may just include the fee within our rates.
We do hope to welcome you back soon.
Booked a studio apt but got upgraded on arrival to 2 bed apt on 6th floor. Some outside noise at night so we moved to the second bedroom which faced the internal courtyard. Very large living/dining/kitchen area. Lovely staff. Very clean. Great food court/market across the road. Got followed by a few beggars at night. Some lovely restaurants close by but we didn’t stray far at night as we didn’t feel entirely comfortable in the area but it was great in the daytime. We got taxis to the V&A waterfront which cost about 80 rand. Hotel is in great location for daytime activities and near stop 5 of CitySighyseeing tour Bus office in Long Street.

Loved this place. It’s in a price range higher than my usual, but wow was it worth it. The only downside is the WiFi is only available in the lobby. The upside of that: sometimes we want to untether a bit anyway?
