Beautiful place, nice amenities

Posted 27-Mar-2015
Pros: Beautiful landscape, clean rooms, nice ambience.
Cons: The service (especially room service requests, such as towels or repairs)
Location: The location is great - right on the beach and 20 min ride from the airport.
My boyfriend and I went for a 4-day vacation in March 2015. The experience was mixed; the resort is as beautiful as on the photos, the pools are very nice and clean, the staff is friendly. But the service is unfortunately not very good. We did not have towels in our suite when we arrived, so I called front desk and asked for the towels. And called again in three hours. Still nobody came, so the next morning we had to go to the front building for those towels... Or we asked to restock the minibar with water and it took two requests and 36 hours. There are several restaurants which are open daily and the food is very good.

March 17-24 2015

Posted 26-Mar-2015
Pros: Everything was great. Definitely a 5 star in our books.
Cons: Need bicycles to get around, that would be great fun and exercise.
My husband and I had a Junior suite and it was perfect for view of sunrise. Room 2043. Martin, Damaray, Emilio, Juan. Martha, Margarita and all the rest, The Bar Tenders and the Fun Staff and towel guys is LG, Fiera, Woody, and more. Cant remember everyone, The food was DELISH, our favorite was the Steakhouse. Buffet breakfast was wonderful, so many choices, the omelet station was so good and he made the best. Will return, we met the nicest people and learned some Spanish too. Great volleyball game, ping pong. The Frozen Cosmos were the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!! A little tough with the seaweed but manageable to get thru if you get far enough.

Our expectations were exceeded.

A great 5 days vacation. First, the resort is far enough away from the airport not to hear air traffic but close enough for a quick cab ride to the resort - probably around 20 minutes ride. Second, a beautiful setting on the ocean with well kept grounds with buildings spread out over a large area that gave us a sense that there were considerably fewer guests even though the resort was at capacity. Third, we had a number of options for swimming, a number of pools with different settings and ambiance (we spent most of our pool time at the adults only pool); meals, with a number of restaurants; and activities, buggy rides, zip lining, bike rides, gym, golf and so. Fourth, and perhaps this was what really made our vacation, wonderful staff with wonderful dispositions - Juan at the front desk, Francis at the bell stand, Alba and Conan who were restaurant hostesses and Yail a great barman.

Another AWESOME Vacation!

Posted 22-Mar-2015
Pros: Everything! It was a wonderful vacation.
Cons: Making guests aware of all that is available to them during their stay (spa and pool in the castle)
This was our 2nd visit to The Sanctuary and can't wait to return for our 3rd! Everything about it was PERFECT!! The atmosphere is beautiful, the food is delicious, the staff is friendly and ready to please. It is a first-class resort that can't be topped. The way the resort is set up, it can feel you are one of few guests because there are so many secluded areas. The staff was excellent. From check-in to check-out, they were there to please and make sure your trip was top-notch. Hector went out of his way to get us to town and Conan's great personality and wonderful hospitality was always a pleasure to see at the restaurants. On our last night, she made last minute arrangements for my husband and I to eat at the Pan-Asian restaurant at the Teppanyaki table to celebrate our last night. Any negative reviews you may read, ignore them. The only conclusion I can come to is they are not pleasable. Our 2nd stay was even better than the 1st and have no complaints. Book your trip and you will NOT be disappointed!

My family just came back from this resort. I will highly recommend this resort to my friends. Foods are various to choose. Fruits are fresh and colorful. Staff are all friendly and polite. Everything gave us impressive. My two sons enjoyed the swimming pool and foods there. Don't hesitate to book this resort. You won't regret!

Beautiful hotel. Food not so good

Posted 21-Mar-2015
Pros: Liked the pool and beach area. The breakfast buffet was good.
Cons: Improve the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the staff.
Everyone at the hotel was very nice and the pool area was beautiful and the rooms were nice. The only issues we had was that the food and service at each of the restaurants was mediocre at best.

Beautiful resort with disappointing food.

Posted 17-Mar-2015
Pros: The grounds and architecture. Very clean and beautiful!
Cons: The food!
Our room was supposed to be "Ocean view". We could not see the water what so ever. The food was far from a 5 star rating! Most all of the workers were very friendly! Jose and Virginia and the rest of the staff at the Blue Marlin were the very best and friendliest! The beach is small and not what we had hoped. We enjoyed the public beach much more than our resort beach. It is a beautiful, clean resort. Just needs improvement where the food is concerned. Also~ Room service is horrific! The food was not only terrible but we ordered dinner one night and after an hour and a half, we had still not gotten our food.

Not the beautiful beach we were hoping for.

Posted 17-Mar-2015
Pros: It was a calm, adults getaway. Not a lot of kids. The grounds were well kept. They had a horseshoe pit, volleyball, bocce ball, entertainment at night
Cons: Regulate to pool towel game, it's very irritating for people trying to relax on vacation while to think about waking up and putting face paint on
We stayed 4 nights in March. When we arrived the staff was nice and greeted us warmly. Our room was okay, we had an Oceanview Junior Suite. The Villas are the place to be though, they are very large and all have amazing views. We tried to upgrade, but were told they were overbooked. Either way, you don't spend too much time in your room so moving on. The ocean looked bright blue and amazing, but the swimming area was dark and murky. No way were going in there! They did have lots of cabanas and areas to relax on the beach, just found it difficult to go in the water. You could walk to nearby beaches that were clearer, but they were not part of the property and it was $40 for some shade (rent a cabana with chairs). Maybe the other area Barvaro Beach was nicer than Cap Cana in Punto Cana? Looking at a map, I'm guessing that's why all of the high end resorts are in Barvaro. The restaurants were good for the most part. They have 4 on site, 1 of which requires a reservation (which was no issue). Dinner was satisfactory, but lunch and breakfast was more challenging to find good food. But hey, you don't go to the Caribbean for great food and gourmet restaurants. Getting a pool chair with an umbrella was quite a feat. People wake up at who knows when, take pools towels down from their room that they stole from the day before and reserve several chairs. By 9am all good seats are taken by a towel. Usually never see they people but the towel sure enjoys the best seat.
