“Quick short lived getaway”

Great place for what we paid for. The food for dinner could have been better, but you get what you paid for. The rooms are outdated and the bathroom was a bit smaller than the other places I've stayed, but for a quick 5 days stay not to bad. The Marina was an extra perk. I was aware that the hotel catered to kids, but watching a kids run up an down in the adult pool and watch them jump into the jacuzzi in his diaper was just WRONG!

Getting there
Make sure to book your transportation before hand. Expedia offers a good one through Best Day Travel. It really avoids confusion and does not delay your time at the airport.
Getting around
Take the R1 or the R2 bus. It cost you about .80 cents and its safe. Just make sure you know where you get off. It also runs after the bars and clubs closes just not as often.
Nightlife
Coco Bongo is a must!

“Will not return”

Upon arrival we were immediately sent to a "concierge" by the front desk. We soon found out that they were not a "concierge" but were actually timeshare salesman for the company. This misrepresentation but a bad taste in our mouth for the stay. The "concierge" led us to believe there were tennis courts and a sports bar available but later found out this was not true. Booked a tour through Best Day the rep at the hotel for Expedia through Cancun Lines and the driver never called our name or came to look for us for pick up and logged us as a "no show" for the trip to the Mayan Ruins. We were at the pick up spot from 7 a.m. till 7:30 a.m. and were supposed to be picked up at 7:10 a.m. Tried for a refund but the company would not do it and wanted us to pay for a cab to catch up with the tour line. Since we had 1 more day to stay we were able to take the tour the next day. Here again misrepresentation, as we were told it was a 2 1/2 hour ride to the park and ended up being 4 hours before we finally got to the park. Even though we were way behind schedule to arrive at the ruins the tour took extra time to stop at a Mayan shopping Mall on the way to the ruins. This stop was not explained to us as part of the tour when we booked it. The only bright spot of this whole vacation were the people who worked the Buffet Restaurant. They were wonderful and very charming. Also the 2 night shows at the theater were very good. As you can see this was not the vacation we had planned on.

Area recommendations
We have previously stayed on the Riviera Maya side of the island and found it to be much better all around then where we stayed this time. We would not return to this part of Cancun again. We tried to upgrade to a room with a hot tub and balcony but were told they were not available and they were only for premier members, which appears to be what their "timeshare" program was actually geared for and not the general public, even though it showed up on the site as an option for an extra $39.00 a night when I booked this vacation.

“Not Impressed”

This was actually the sixth and last time we will stay here. I booked the room on Expedia and it says free upgrade to ocean view, king size bed, non smoking. When we arrived the front desk clerk seemed to get great pleasure in informing me that they don't guarantee rooms just spaces so we got a lagoon smoking room with two double beds. When we arrived at the room the air was set to its lowest setting and the room was freezing. We called down and asked if my wife could borrow a bath robe,(we have always had them in the rooms before) we were told NO those are for the members rooms, I said three weeks ago we had them in our room and he replied last time you were staying in an ocean view room. As always the food sucks in every one of their restaurants.it is basically the same thing every day. the cooks have very low skills and more food is wasted than consumed. There are far better choices in the cancun area and we will be staying elsewhere on our next trip in February.

Area recommendations
Anywhere in the hotel zone is fine for tourists, the downtown, El centro, Kiwi areas are all safe during the daytime but after dark stay away from the western areas of downtown, Marcedo 23, plaza 2000 these areas get dangerous even for locals after dark. We lived in Cancun for two years and now we visit 5 times per year. If you want to see how the locals really live take bus R1 from the hotel zone to downtown then take a taxi to" Hacienda Real Del Caribe" the taxi will cost 35 pesos each way to this area( confirm price before getting into taxi) 35 is pronouced Thrinti Sinko pesos only visit during the daytime. there are lots of locals only shops and food vendors in this area don't expect english to be spoken. But walk around and see how cheap mexico can be.
Getting around
R1 is the bus from the hotel zone to downtown 8.5 pesos per person R2 is the bus from the hotel zone to Wal-mart 8.5 pesos per person Taxis anywhere in downtown area 25 pesos, further than el centro is 35 pesos, to hotel zone is 150 pesos to airport is 140 pesos. Don't take a taxi that sits in front of a hotel waiting for a fare they charge double. use the taxis that are always moving for the best prices just hold up your hand, when they stop ask "quantos dinero to ____? before getting in, if they don't quote the above prices state No Gracias and walk away.

“SO Fun!!”

We had an amazing time! The employees of the hotel were very helpful... One woman personally gave us a ride into town when there was confusion about a snorkeling trip we ordered. The food wasnt the best, but we were completely fine with what was there. I recommend this hotel to couples as well as families and groups; it's great for everyone.

“November 2011”

The staff was friendly. The hotel was nice but old, and needs upgrading. The only thing I did not like was the food on the buffet was cold. For the money and close to the airport it was fine., The Myan ruins close by were a must to see.

“CANNOT COMPLAIN!!!!”

It was a very nice stay. The service is excellent. The staff are better than great. My room in the tower was beautiful. The beach is awesome. The location is good...not really out of the way. Did not take a timeshare presentation but was asked several times. Just say no and keep walking. It is no different in that respect than other timeshare resort. If there is a downside it would be the buffet...it is just average. Customers praised the others as great. I think those who are very critical would have issues at any resort. Had been there before and will go again asap.

“Good value”

Our family of 4's stay was excellent. hotel was not 5 star but nice. Ate first night at Marco Polo rest. and that was not very impressive. Family decided that buffet was the way to go. Food choices and quality was better than some of these reviews would lead you to believe. Staff was very friendly, although relentless on "the presentation" of timeshare. JUST SAY NO emphatically if you are not interested. Interestingly enough, we did voluntarily attend another presentation at Cancun Palace, which was VERY NICE, 5 stars. All depends on budget and at what level of quality you are used to. We had a great time at the Royal Solaris. It was a good value.
