“Great location”

The hotel in not that fancy, but it is really closer to everything like downtown, restaurants, nightclubs and beach.

“Good Location, Great Room”

This room was larger than we expected, and could have easily fit more than two people. We had a king bed, breakfast nook and kitchen area. The kitchen, however, was not fully furnished, and we had only a microwave - that didn't matter much to us but there were no other utensils or even a fridge in our room. Also, there's no elevator. Overall, however, we thought that for the price we got a good deal.

“Cancun for the low-maintenance traveler”

This is a gem of a place if you are traveling on a budget. Otherwise, there a many much finer options in Cancun. But I appreciated the fact that I could still find a place in the Hotel Zone that I could afford that wasn't decaying, unclean, or unsafe. One one side there's a view of the lagoon and in the middle there's a quaint pool area. Again, if you're looking for massive beaches, and all-inclusives - this isn't it, but if you're just looking for a place to rest your head after hitting the night scene or are on your way to another desitination with Cancun as a stopover, it's a good option. The service was good both times I stayed there.

Hotel employees were helpful and friendly. TV reception was terrible. NO internet available in room, VERY inconvenient. Internet was available only in the lobby - but not reliable. Convenient location to stores and restaurants.

“Modest but nice”

We stayed at Cancun Clipper Club for a week on Spring Break 2010. We were very satisfied with the price-quality ratio of the hotel - for the price we paid, we got a nice little hotel with a superb location. The hotel staff was very helpful. As an example of this, the broken hairdryer in the room was fixed in less than five minutes. The room in general was pretty simple but adequate for our needs and it was kept in good condition. There's no wifi in the room; the one by the pool and in the lobby is a little slow at times but it works and is free. The pool area is small but lovely, it's a nice alternative to the giant and crowded ones of the bigger resorts. There is no beach but the lagoon is right next to the hotel. Since there are crocodiles in the lagoon, you can't really swim there but the view is nice! The hotel provides pool towels and there is also a nice pool bar, you can enjoy a drink without stepping out from the water. We weren't expecting a complimentary breakfast so the one we got was a nice surprise despite its modesty. For spring breakers like us, you can't really beat the location of the hotel! The main nightclub area of the hotel zone is only minutes away; there's also a bunch of restaurants, little shops and a bus stop nearby. The public beach is a short walk away.

Area recommendations

If you're getting tired of the hotel zone, Isla Mujeres is a lovely place to visit. There are pretty beaches, friendly people, creative architecture and a relaxed atmosphere. We found a perfect little park area next to the beach with good music, a little restaurant and a bar and lots of cool people. Definitely worth a visit.

Getting around

The buses are a good alternative. The price is minimal and even though the driving style gets a little crazy sometimes, you get where you're trying to be safely. The taxi drivers have completely different rates for tourists and as the buses go very often, we preferred using them.

“Pretty ghetto, but great location”

bathroom was disgusting, tub was gross worst was the sales man trying to sell us a timeshare non stop. even calling us in our room to meet him. very annoying. but walking distance from downtown entertainment and safe parking

“Will stay again.”

Clean older hotel with beautiful grounds. Within walking distance of 2 malls, flea market, bars, Coo Coo Bongo, and Carlos & Charlies. Mexetreme, an excellent restaurant with delicious pina colatas and mango margaritas is only few steps away! Would stay agin!

“Would've been nice to have a locking door!”

The Cancun Clipper Club provided me and my two friends with a heap of crazy stories -- all in our first night! It took us about an hour to find the place (airport staff, the rental car guy & other hotels hadn't heard of it), but when we finally pulled up, we were pleased to find that it was walking distance to all the restauarants and bars. Our room was large, complete with a kitchen and a view of the lagoon. The beds were hard, but sleepable (especially since we'd arrived at 11pm and were exhausted). The only problem we found was that our deadbolt didn't work -- and you could open the door without a card key! Now this is partly our fault: we were so tired/hungry from traveling, and we were only staying there one night and leaving Cancun early the next morning, so we opted not to tell the front desk. In our tired state we decided that the door *looked* locked, and no one would wander up to our room (on the top floor). So we grabbed our valuables and headed to dinner. Well, at about 4 am, we awoke to a STRANGE MAN stumbling into our room! Evidently, he must've thought it was his room, used his card key, and opened our unlocked door. As we sat up in bed, he realized it was the wrong room, drunkenly uttered some expletives aimed at his own mistake, and ran out. Somehow this didn't phase us too much, and we slept the rest of the night. So, to sum it up, this place was great for the money, but just make sure you're door locks!
