“Relaxation is available in Cancun”

Just got back from the Hotel Avalon Baccara and I want to go back already. The hotel offered us a two bed suite with two bathrooms, large lounge, dining area, kitchen and balcony with a sunken spa tub. It was blissful. Had a massive bed in the main b/r which was very comfy. The staff were wonderful. Very accomodating, helpful and friendly. It has a rustic charm that the big hotel chains do not offer. Only 27 rooms in the entire hotel and is ideal if you want peace, relaxation and an amazing view. It was fantastic. Thanks Avalon Baccara for a fab holiday. Going to miss you.

“Nice friendly hotel in the perfect location”

We stayed here over Xmas and New Year 2008, and found the hotel small, but very friendly. The location is absolutely perfect. Across the street is the Flamingo Mall which has all the day-to-day things you need (pharmacy, souvenir shops, small supermarket for snacks, bottles of water, etc), plus some of the big 'party' bars and restaurants, such as O'Briens, Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory, MaguaritaVille, Outback Steakhouse, etc, which do superb food and at night have entertainment such as live bands, magicians, discos, etc. The main entertainment centre at Cancun Point is 30mins walk away, or 5 mins by bus, which seem to run every 30 seconds or so (I'm not joking!) and cost only 6.5 pesos each. The Hotel itself has a lovely small beach, which only ever seems to have about 10 people on it. The sand is golden, and the beach stays shallow 50m or so out to sea, so you can wade out quite far and the sea still only reaches your waist. On the downside, the food in the hotel wasn't very good, and overpriced. We mde the mistake of having the Xmas Eve banquet at 38USD each, and it turned out to eb small portions of cold turkey with lukewarm gravy. After that experience we simply ate at one of the many nearby restaurants for 1/3 the price and much better quality. But I feel sorry for thsoe that had bought the all-in package and had to put up with the hotel food every day. The hotel had a lovely pool, and a swim-up bar, but again, the prices were too high (maybe 3x the price in outide bars).
