Very nice comfortable Stay, Close to everything

Posted 12-May-2014
Pros: The Hotel was centered good, close to everything.
Cons: I would place a microwave in the smaller rooms as well especially for those nights we arrive late to heat up some soup.
Location: Maklin Place Sport Fields are close by as well as shopping centre. Then of couse the old and new Parliament Houses. The art gallery and the city.
Thank you our stay was wonderfull, friendly and helpfull staff. We were only there for a sports event but will definately stay here again on our next visit to do the sight seeing family holiday.

Disappointing 2 day stay

Posted 06-Apr-2014
Pros: Friendly staff and clean room
Cons: Bathroom layout
I booked the room as a secret deal and was disappointed. Thinking the secret hotel deals offered a cheaper price for rooms because you didn't know which one you were getting. But I paid more per night than if I had booked on their website. The staff were friendly and the room was clean. The bath room however is poorly laced out. Sitting on the toilet is a squash, it faces the hand basin there isn't much room. Unfortunately I was woken the first morning with someone mowing the lawn right outside my window around 7am, the second morning there must have been a whole heap of car enthusiast staying there as at 6am on Sunday they needed to start engines to warm up their car. Did I didn't get much of a sleep in either of the 2 nights I was there.

Tentative Expectations

Posted 22-Mar-2014
Pros: Friendly, efficient and helpful staff, nice surrounds, good food, pleasant room, no traffic noise.
Cons: In all my travels I have never stayed in an hotel that supplies TOOTHPASTE! (You can always find a half-used tube in a backpackers!)
Location: We visited war memorial museum, portraits gallery, Inca Gold display - we walked. All venues were good though school parties were endless!
We wanted an hotel close by the political centre of Canberra and on a web search Forrest Hotel met our needs - though we wanted something cheaper! We were brassed off when we tried to book because the system of choosing days and dates somehow conspired to go back to "zero" AFTER billing our credit card. So, when we tried to correct the error we were given the bull excretment story about not being able to change bookings or ask for refunds. So, we phoned the hotel direct. They were very nice and helpful and from that we were able to go back to the booking outfit and get a "new" booking. So, our first experience of the hotel was quite positive - unlike our experience with the on-line booking agency. When we arrived the hotel met our needs. Reasonable room, good shower, and reasonably comfortable bed. The hotel was not in close vicinity of restaurants etc - or so we thought - so we had dinner and breakfast at the hotel. The dinners were OK. My favourite was salmon - which was a good-sized piece. My partner's favourite was a Thai steak salad. Breakfast, well, we had bacon, pancakes and fresh fruit slices with maple syrup and yoghurt.... finished off by tucking into small "Danish" pastries with our coffee. Breakfast may not have been cheap - but we survived OK on it until well into the afternoons. Just prior to departure we discovered there was a shopping centre near by - but we never visited it. I would have liked to have hired bicycles to get around, but they were $45 per day.

Functional

Posted 10-Feb-2014
Pros: Location was good for us and it was inexpensive.
Cons: The room was tiny.
We went to Canberra for a foreign passport so needed a place to crash. Forrest Hotel is perfect for this, near the embassies, walking distance to Manuka shops. The room was very small but had a TV and the air con worked. Nothing to write home about but it certainly did the job and represented value for money.
