Tired Hotel

Posted 06-Oct-2014
Pros: Location was not far from the Antique Fair.
Cons: Deep clean the rooms. Horrified to see "old dried up mucus" stuck to one of the bedroom pictures! This should be noted by house keeping and management
Location: The Cuckoo Pub in nearby Alwalton Village has Great Food, Ambience, Fine Wines and a decent pint of Guinness.
Hotel very dated and long overdue a refurbishment. Bedrooms relatively clean but not really inviting. Shower had very poor water flow/no power and the sink did not empty quickly even when plug completely removed. Clogged up waste pipes? Woken up very early on the Saturday morning by laundry delivery lorry continually reversing with loud beeping below our bedroom window Room 304. No good night's sleep guarantee! Hotel management has opportunity to make good but have heard nothing to date, which is the problem whenever you pay in full in advance. The Hotel bar does not stock "Guinness" which is just wrong in this day and age. Would not contemplate drinking the alternative as Guinness has no substitute!

Pleasant stay but didn't get to see much of hotel

Posted 26-Sep-2014
Cons: Interior room decor could use a fresh coat of paint, skirting boards all scuffed and the bathroom looks tired and in need of TLC particularly the bath
Location: Just off the motorway so quite handy, altho' not sure what is in the area as attended the East of England showground for the Landrover show both days
Stayed over for 2 nights (Fri & Sat) to attend the Landrover show. Arrived late on Friday night so didn't get to use the facilities just retired straight to room. Room 213 ok, overlooked the entrance/car park area, comfy bed, clean and tidy but could do with a bit of TLC paintwork grubby and bathroom tired otherwise ok. Arrived back at the hotel on Sat evening late again so once again didn't get chance to try out the gym/swimming pool etc..Bar area very full so we chose to eat out at the restaurant next door (Golf Club) very reasonable prices ranged from 2 meals for £9.99 to higher priced steaks etc, for anyone interested we chose the mixed grills which were huge! Would definitely dine there again :) although probably not very helpful review for the hotel. Didn't see much of the hotel as out both days, not sure if we would stay again prob not?

Hotel with decent leisure facilities

Posted 02-Sep-2014
Only a brief stay but leisure facilities reasonably good if a little dated. Bar and restaurant area very comfortable and relaxed feel to it. Room bed was huge and very comfortable, very clean room and bathroom.

There was a lack of staff when I went to the gym and bar, in both places I waited 10 minutes before giving up being served. I booked 2 nights at different times but the reception staff were aware as they said we would stay in the same room. However, they checked us out and I couldn't get back into the room. Despite these issues the staff I did have contact with were very friendly. I also liked being so close to the gym and reception.

Just A Little Bit More...

I actually enjoy starting at Holiday Inns. It's one of few hotels I look for when I'm staying anywhere. This one was kind of a disappointment. Nothing really in walking distance, kinda set a little ways away from the city center. Overall I like these hotels chains, but this one let me down a little.

We booked this hotel because it had a pool which we wanted for our grandson who's learning to swim. But by the time we arrived we couldn't take him in because they have certain times only for children. The next time we book a hotel with a pool I will make sure to ask if there are any restrictions on children using the pool.
