“Good stop-over hotel in Peterborough - rip off breakfast!!”
Our stay at this hotel was uneventful - it was clean, well run and the staff were friendly and efficient - no complaints at all. We were there attending a retirement party locally, with a group of friends. However, we had not ordered breakfast in advance and were told that if we ordered it on check-in, it was one price - but if we decided in the morning to go in for breakfast having not booked in advance, the price was nearly doubled! They called in the "check in rate" - what an unholy rip off. On that principle alone, we decided not to stay for breakfast and since we were leaving at 9.00am., we had breakfast at the Little Chef, (which was surprisingly good) for under £10 each. Not impressed with that change in policy Holiday Inn. You're an excellent, budget hotel for a reason - value for money - don't spoil it now!

“Great Hotel, Lousy Customer Service”
The hotel looks and feels new, and it's situated in a very nice suburb-y neighborhood. My bad rating is due to the really bad customer service. Based on the description on Expedia, the wireless internet should have been included/complimentary. When I checked in, I was told that there would be a charge (about $16 per night). When I showed them the Expedia room amenities description, they continued to argue the point in a very patronizing manner. The Front Desk Manager in particular (or person in charge) was rude, snide and mean. She finally consulted the General Manager (or so she said), and condescendingly provided the wireless. By then, I was very angry at the poor treatment and offensive behavior. Later that day, I went to the restaurant, and again, the staff was bad-mannered. Overall, I was very surprised at the lack of customer service at this Holiday Inn, since I’ve normally had a good experience with the chain in the US and in other locations. So, despite the nice hotel and location, the bad service is enough to put off any traveler.
“Customer Service Stinks!”
I arrived from a long flight from the USA terribly jetlagged. I arrived before their normal checkin time, and asked if there was any possible way to check in early. I had been accomodated with this request before at two other local hotels, one of them a Holiday Inn Express. The girl at the front desk said there was no way, didn't even check if a room was available, and treated me like I was the scum of the earth somehow. So since I had no where else to go, I proceeded to try to sleep in my sub-compact car (whose seats didn't recline) for three hours before I could check in. When I did check in, the same girl would hardly acknowledge me, didn't tell me about the code to get out of the parking lot, the internet connection or anything. You would have thought I had some contagious disease or something the way she treated me. There was no personal service or friendliness from any of the staff throughout my stay. If I could have cancelled my reservation and gone somewhere else I would have, but it was prepaid and I would have lost the total payment. Every night when I came back to the hotel there was a Christmas party going on that I had to wade through people outside the front door and in the lobby to get through to my room. I don't often complain about things, but this was not a nice experience.
