“Budget Hotel”

Campanille Bayeux is a budget hotel that will accomplish the job. The rooms are small and the beds are small. There was only a single sheer curtain on our window without blinds which made the stay on the ground floor a little uncomfortable. That being said, we got a good rate and for that reason, I suppose I got what I paid for. If you are looking for a budget hotel in Bayeux, this is the place for you. The place was clean and the staff was friendly.

“Appropriate Lodging in Bayeux”

We just stayed over night at this location. It was convenient in location, close to Normandie Museum, Bayeux Tapestries, Bayeux Centre Ville, etc. There is a restaurant on site, and everything is in english. The room, though suitable, was sparse. I felt as if I was back on an army base dorm room. But again, clean, and good enough for one night.

Area recommendations
Le Pommier Restaurant around the corner from Notre Dame de Bayeux. Irish Bar (near Bayeux Tapestries area) can't remember name.

“Customer Service Atrocious”

We arrived about 11 PM on a Sunday night and were advised by the clerk that breakfast starts at 630 AM. We got up at 7AM to have breakfast because we had a Normandy tour at 815 AM. The morning clerk did not arrive until 745 AM but by this time it was too late for us to have breakfast. In addition, the morning clerk was unapologetic and wanted to charge us a full breakfast when we just wanted a bun because we had too wait so long and were hungry. The hotel room was nice and clean but the service was so horrible that we cannot recommend this hotel.

“Just what we needed”

The Hotel is centrally located to town and railway station. The room was comfortable and provided the amenities and services we required. The restaurant is good value and consequently, popular. A great base from which to explore Bayeux and the Normandy beaches.

“Clean, efficient and comfortable”

This is not a luxury-class hotel, but is everything you'd want for a short break in Bayeux. At a pinch you could walk to all the historical attractions, but there is plenty of parking - mostly with a small fee - in the town. It was very good for its star-rating: it had the air of a motel, but it was quiet and comfortable, and in very good modern condition. There is a restaurant on site, but we only had breakfast there: child and baby friendly, if a touch expensive. we wopuld use the Campanile again, and would recommend it to others.

Area recommendations
Oh, come on: the Tapestry, of course! And the cathedral.
When to go
Out -of-season ensures no queues at the Musee de la Tapisserie
Must see
The Bayeux Tapestry: take an audio-guided tour which lasts about half an hour, plus a film in English (and other languages). Fantastic to see the original of iconic images we have all known from early childhood. There is also a very good gift-shop. The Cathedral is also very impressive: Norman architecture, plus a more modern (i.e. later mediaeval!!) element. Arromanches and the Normandy D-day beaches are within a 20 minute drive.

“Great Value”

The hotel was clean and the rooms were larger than others that we stayed in around France. The restaurant was good and the service was great. Everyone spoke English and we had no problems asking questions or ordering our food. The trundle bed was a bit of a surprise but it was fine for my son. We would recommend this hotel and we would stay here again. Great value for the money. The only complaint that we had from our entire stay was - the taxis don't run on Sundays. This wasn't the hotels fault, they did arrange transportation for us back to the train station. We were happy. The town of Bayeux was beautiful and we had a great time.

“Great value in Bayeux”

We had a pleasant stay and enjoyed the location and service at the hotel. Nice spot to park a car, close to downtown, within walking distance.

“amazing town with fabulous cathedral”

very friendly people in the town, delicious meals, amazing cathedral (built in 1077), great location to see the Normandy beaches

Area recommendations
small town---any neighborhood would be recommended
Traveller's tip
We rented a car at CDG airport and drove to this hotel (free parking). From there, we could easily drive to the museums and Normandy beaches and Mt Sant Michel--which was amazing.

“inexpensive place to stay with two people in a room”

If you like spacious and you have three people staying in a room, you might want to choose a different hotel. Like all of our other hotels, the third person was squeezed into the room making it a challenge to move around. The friendliness and the help from the front desk more than made up for the sleeping inconvenience. I would recommend this hotel without qualifications. It reminded us of a Red Roof chain in the U.S. --no charm, just the basics.

Traveller's tip
The D-Day beaches and the park where DeGaulle gave his first speech after returning to French soil, the war cemeteries, the Bayeux tapestry, all make for an exceptional destination.
