We stayed at the Derby for 2 nights in early Nov 2014 as part of a two week vacation in Spain and Portugal. This was probably the best value for the dollar that we received on the whole trip. The location was super, very near eating places, shopping and things to see and do. The staff was not the best or worse English speakers we encountered on our trip, but they were very helpful and we liked all of them. Hope we get the stay there again, we won't hesitate.
I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel and I am a bit fussy. I had a small single room as did my friend but just for a change the lighting was good and it was well set out. The staff are delightful and very helpful. We really enjoyed the breakfasts the bread was fresh and a good variety for all tastes. Great range of croissants and they were deliciously fresh!. The fruit was exceptionally fresh and sweet. The coffee machine takes a bit of working out but hotel staff are quick to demonstrate. For once I could have my usual 4 or 5 cups, it wasn't bitter for a change or too strong! The hotel is situated in a great place with access to many really good Tapas bars. Turn left as you leave the hotel for the best ones. This hotel is not too big to be impersonal and it has a very traditional Moorish feel to it. It is kept spotlessly clean. I would definitely stay there again.
Very easy to find; unlike some of the hotels, which are hidden well away in dark alleyways.
It takes approx. 10-15 mins. to walk to the hotel from the bus stop and it's just off the main road.
Had a room towards the back, so didn't hear any street noise whatsoever. Room was a good size and clean. It was simply, but pleasantly furnished. Bathroom and shower were clean and had hot water at all times (although on one occasion it took quite a while to heat up).
Plenty of cafes around the hotel, including a Starbucks.
Main shopping streets 'Sierpes' and 'Tetuan', which lead to Alcazar and Catherdral start just across the main road.
