“The Karvin”

Great people, great trip. Stay was awesome.... The Karvin employees are #1 in my book. The rooftop is the best place to hang out with friends and enjoy the night... Awesome.....

“Poor service and unreasonable staff”

I found this hotel to be clean and comfortable, however the staff frustrated me to no end. I have traveled extensively through Egypt and the Middle East, and I am usually very satisfied with the level of service, however the hotel staff at the Karvin were generally unpleasant and unhelpful.

“Excellent customer service at this 3 star hotel near Cairo International Airport”

A really nice small hotel. Staff are attentive and want to respond to your needs. Rooms are small but clean; the on-site Indian Restaurant provides healthy, tasty food, and the establishment is no more than 20 minutes from Cairo International Airport. Fellow residents at the hotel are seasoned travelers and business road warriors from all parts of the globe seeking value for $$ and they get it here. Do give this place a go.

“Clean hotel close to Airport for o/night stay”

After a somewhat diabolical experience arriving at Cairo Airport from London at 12.30am (one and half hours getting through customs) then being scammed BIG time by touts at the airport we finally arrived at the Hotel ONE HOUR after leaving the airport (normally a 10min drive). Not the Hotels fault but it would be wise to ring the hotel from the airport and give directions to the "taxi" driver in Arabic on how to get there. The hotel is tucked away up a side street and not known to many "taxi" drivers. IT would SAVE a lot of FRUSTRATION and HOT collars. The hotel staff was extremely helpful in all ways including organizing a WHITE taxi with a METER back to the airport the next morning...note the emphasis on WHITE. Room was clean and a hot shower was bliss the next morning while breakfast was simple and enough. If anyone wants a budget hotel for an overnight stay half way between the airport and downtown Cairo this would be my choice again.

Traveller's tip
ALWAYS hire WHITE cabs with Meters and INSIST that the driver activates the meter before you hop in. If he does not you MUST move to another taxi until he comes to his senses. I could go on for a lot longer but will leave this for another forum.

“Great value for Money”

Very good value for money for a three star hotel. Clean rooms. Very attentive staff. Very good restaurant choices on site. The rooftop restaturant is a great place to unwind. Superb Indian restaturant downstairs. I would go abck.

“Very Nice Hotel”

We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel. It was a good sized room, very comfortable, and had a pretty big bathroom for a hotel room. There are plenty of dining choices in the hotel, all of which had some pretty good food. I recommend trying the shisha pipe (it's only tobacco) in the garden room on the roof for anyone that hasn't tried it. It is closer to the airport than downtown Cairo, but the black & white taxis get you anywhere you need to go at a pretty decent price (about $10 average to downtown). The only drawback is that some cab drivers don't know how to get to the hotel, but if you get them in the general area, they have convenient signs of where the hotel is located. Make sure to grab a card with driving directions in Arabic from the hotel.

Traveller's tip
The Giza Pyramids were great, but if you take a taxi there, the cab driver might let someone in the cab to try to sell you a camel rental. Don't be fooled if they say they're the police, while wearing regular clothes, and that you cannot proceed to the entrance without a camel rental. Have them show you credentials if they claim it, and continue on to the entrance. To save you all that trouble, I recommend booking a tour (there are several available) from Expedia; they were pretty good.

“convenient and good value for money”

This was our second visit to the Karvin hotel, and, again, it met all our expectations. It doesn't aspire to and wouldn't reach 5-star standards, but the room and bathroom were clean, comfortable and quiet - if a little small - and it was good having a balcony. We had dinner twice, and would particularly recommend the Indian restaurant, breakfast was fine, and the location is handy for Heliopolis and the airport.

Traveller's tip
Taxis from downtown won't know the hotel or the street - but it's esy to find one on the main road
