“Good for experienced travelers”

This hotel is good for it's price. You get breakfast and free wi fi which others which may look slightly better don't provide. You also get a shower unit in a bath, where other hotels only give you a cubicle. If you've traveled before and are happy with the basics this place is fine and the area is quite rich, you just need to take a second look. if you want all the trimmings though look elsewhere however it costs. Here there are no hidden fees

Area recommendations
Zamalek, right in the heart. Best place
Getting around
Taxi- make sure you get a metered cab or confirm the price first, never accept the first price

“Best value in Zamalek”

I have stayed at the President several times and found it good value for money compared to other hotels in the area. The staff are friendly and efficient (excepting the breakfast waiters who rarely speak). The room was spacious and clean, bathroom a little cramped but adequate. They have recently added WIFI which is great and the location a few minutes from downtown is excellent. I will stay here next time I am in Cairo.

Area recommendations
Zamalek is an embassy area resulting in a secure, quiet neighorhood. Its location is, traffic permitting, a short drive to downtown Cairo. I use the metered taxis, white with a black chequred strio, they are fairly new and there is no arguement about price at the end. Zamalek has several nice cafes and places to dine so you don't have to go far. Also it has many good quality shops in and around the main road. Its as good as Maadi but closer to downtown.
When to go
Egypt I believe is best to visit November through to March.
Getting around
The white taxis with the black chequered strip are metered there is a small flagfall but the cars are relatively new and most have aircon but the best part is there are no arguements at the end of the trip about price.
Dining
Downtown Cafe Rich on Tal'at Harb street is good and reasonable in price. Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is a pleasant if a little expensive coffee shop in Zamalek. Fellfellas is another reasonable place to eat downtown.

The staff was helpful and the restaurant ok.

Area recommendations
Not too far from the pyramids
When to go
We were there shortly after the political disruptions. All was quiet and the locals were very greatful for tourists.

“Good hotel”

Coming from India, we thought this hotel was great. The room was spacious and clean. The furniture was a bit dated, as another reviewer had mentioned, but the room was clean. The only issue we had with the room was that it had twin beds and not a double. The pastry shop at the lobby of the hotel had delicious pastries and desserts! For travelers who have late flights, apparently, hotels are not allowed to store bags in all hotels due to security reasons, so you may be stuck with them until you have to leave for the airport. We just went to the airport 8 hrs early because of this.

“Cheap, quiet, clean, friendly hotel in one of Cairo's best neighborhoods”

The President Hotel is a great little hotel on the leafy green island of Zamelek in Cairo. The lobby very nice and constantly staffed. There is almost always a police officer hanging out with the doormen so safety is not an issue (even though the area is totally safe already). We stayed in 3 separate and different looking rooms due to our own scheduling issues and they each varied in levels of comfort. The first room had an A/C unit but it didn't work so we had to get a fan from the front desk. It also didn't have a shower curtain. The 2nd room was huge and had a great balcony and bathroom and working A/C. The 3rd room had a smaller balcony and a nice bathroom and working A/C. The bar upstairs was very nice. The free breakfast was pretty underwhelming with not a very large selection. We did not try out the basement bar so can't comment on that. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the hotel was very quiet. The only real problem we had was that cab drivers never knew how to get to it, but they are always willing to ask people so we always ended up there. I would definitely recommend this hotel to fellow travelers as a super cheap, very nice place to stay in one of Cairo's calmest neighborhoods.

What to pack
Pack shampoo for this hotel. They do not stock any.

“Great area of Cairo a must”

I had previously travelled to Cairo and stayed in other parts of the city which left me unimpressed. The President Hotel is located on the island of Zelmalek which is completely different from the rest of the city - and definately in a good way! The hotel itself was good but the best bit was the location. Zelmalek is where all the foreign embassies are located and it was a safe and quiet area to stay in. I would definately recommend staying at this hotel as you get a great location for a budget price. They have triple share rooms which were hard to find in Cairo as well. If you have the funds I strongly recommend hiring a guide for the day. Our guide was full of information and we didn't get hassled by anyone (such an improvement on our first trip there!)

Area recommendations
Zelmalek for the above reasons

“Love this hotel”

Loved this Hotel. Have been to Egypt on numerous occasions, but this is the best for its location and cost. It’s very clean and affordable. The staff are very friendly, and the breakfast is a lovely start to the day. Great for all ages, I stayed there with my husband, while my parents later stayed at the same hotel and enjoyed it immensely. It can be a difficult place for you to find, although I found that all the cab drivers I talked to knew where it was. Ask for a balcony room.

“I would go back”

The hotel was nice, clean and comfortable. I would definitely go back. The location of the hotel is good. It is located in a nice, quiet neighbourhood of Cairo and you alweays felt safe regardless of the time of the day. The restaurant next to the hotel is amazing and reasonable priced. Try to avoid the hotel's restaurant as it is expensive, the service is not very good (rude staff) and even though the food is ok it is not great. Try to find taxis from the main road rather than outside the hotel as they are a lot mor expensive. Avoid to make any deals with the hotel staff with regard to taxis as their prices are really high! The breakfast was very good and the staff very attentive. If you want to have eggs, you need to ask the staff and they will prepare the eggs for you. Good experience overall. Cairo is a great city with lots of places that you can visit.
