“Don't do it.”

Only one manager at the hotel is professional and did what he could to make sure I enjoyed my stay at the hotel however the hotel subpar. No internet in the rooms. The bed is comfortable and you can adjust the heat to your liking. Other than that the hotel sucked.

“Learn from my mistake”

I chose this hotel because it was close to the pyramids. However, we would have been better off staying downtown there is nothing to see or do within walkin distance of the hotel. The staff was not very attentive or courteous, staff could use some service classes. The room itself could have used a through cleaning ie, broken frig, missing hardware on cabinet for clothes, dirty and dusty balcony furniture, (never used) etc. We did have clean sheets and towels daily and the supervisor in charge of our room did replace the frig within 2hrs and was attentive. The mosquitoes in the room were annoying, each night before we went to sleep we hunted mosquitoes so we wouldn't end up like our first night, bitten up. I did read the previous reviews but I decided to try it anyway....heed the warnings. Breakfast was okay, I saw staff handling food while on the buffet with bare hands, not the cooks or wait staff. The car service at the hotel over charged repeatedly, by more than 1/2 and everyone wants to take you to places that you really have no interest in, even after repeatedly saying "no thank you".We will not be using this hotel when we return next year. Consider yourself warned!!!!

“Tourist Mill”

The hotel was mobbed with tour groups from varying parts of the world. When I arrived at breakfast at 8 a.m., the restaurant looked as if a swarm of locusts had gone through it. One morning there was no milk, and the wait staff said it was "very sorry." I had to go around to several people to get a fork, spoon, napkin, etc. The surfaces of the tables in the hotel room were dirty. When I wiped them off with an antibacterial wipe, the wipe had black all over it. The mirror in the bathroom had the last occupant's tooth brush spills all over it.

The wonders of Egypt, though great, are filled with huge numbers of visitors and extremely aggressive vendors who get in your face. Some of the vendors hit me physically, and only a loud shout of "No" made them stop. I went in March and waited on very long lines to get into tombs, etc. I needed saline for my nose and eye drops for my eyes due to the sand storms. One should also take sunscreen, sunglasses, a good wide brimmed hat, and even a solar umbrella as the heat is incredible. Keeping oneself hydrated with bottled water is critical as the tap water contains a bacteria that non-Egyptians are not used to. One also has to check and see if vegetables were washed in filtered water or regular tap water as the tap water will make a person quite sick.

“Served its purpose, but not impressed.”

The hotel grounds and facilities are nice. Hotel staff was kind. The room was average. The location and food was not very good. Although our experince was not bad I would probably stay some where else if I was ever to go back to Cairo.

“Don't believe the reviews! This place is great!”

I had read the previous reviews and decided to see for myself. What mosquitoes? What poor service? We had a wonderful time! Not once were we bothered by mosquitoes. And the hotel, grounds, and the room specifically were better than I had hoped. The breakfast was more than good! It was wonderful as well. It was so close to the pyramids than I could spit on them from my room. The hotel arranged a guide and car for us and we couldn't be happier with Rabea. He was fluent in English, had a wonderful sense of humor and knew all the tricks and tips. I will definitely go back, will stay at Caataract again, and ask for Rabea again. This will guarantee we will have a good time....again!

Other
Do not even think about driving in Cairo! They have a different set of driving expectations. They know what they are doing. You will cause an accident. I've driven all over the world, driven on both sides of the road, and driven where there is no road. I was so glad I decided to not drive. I would have had an accident, I just know it. Spend the extra cash, haggle for the price before getting in the taxi, and let the experts do the driving. Hire a dcar and driver for the day for about what your evening meal with drinks will cost. Live a little!

“Had a fantastic time!”

The staff was friendly, not so much the front desk but the room service guy, the restaurant staff and the security ware very nice. THe food was delicious. They had a great buffet at night and for breakfast. I also ate at the a la carte area (nice). The pool was ridiculously huge , never seen one quite so large. Overall very pleased!!

“You get what you pay for”

The staff was nice, our group was not crazy about their food, the free breakfast was not bad, the pool was not open everyday, we always got new towels and our beds were made. You really can see the pyramids from the roof top. However, it was not close to downtown area, we always had to take a cab to go anywhere. There really isn't anything at walking distance to go to or shop for.

Traveller's tip
Our group is so glad we went through Viator, this agency was excellent. Don't consider renting a car, the traffic is horrible. Don't miss the Giza Pyramids, go inside the Great Pyramid, Alexandria was beautiful, the Nile Cruise Dinner was nice, Cairo Tower you can do on your own, City Stars is great for shopping (the mall is huge over 7 floors. Always bargain, if they don't match your price, slowly walk away and 99% of the time they will meet your price.
