“Shocking Service”

We stayed here 6yrs ago, and loved it, so we knew when we went back we would stay here, well never again! The room we were given was very poor, the veranda was so small you couldn't sit out there and our view was a huge pile of dried grass. So after the first night I rang the reception to ask if we could change room, I have never done that before and will never do it again, they treated me like an offender of a crime and said they would get right back to me, 5.5hrs later and I had to call them twice they finally gave me an answer (so half of the first day waiting for them?!, not impressed) and we got given a room on the ground, which was dark and the view was a concrete wall! Then it got worse, the air con (both units in apt) did not work, so we had to approach reception, (we put up with it for 2 days but 34 degrees was too hot) she asked for the room number, and her comeback was, 'You were the people that changed rooms!' I advised her the air con was not working and she said she would get maintenance to have a look, I asked for an approx time as we wanted to go out, and she could not give one?! (Well pick up the phone and make an effort?!) Fortunately the man turned up within 30mins and he was fantastic, both machines were broken and he had them fixed for us within 24hrs, he provided the best service! I hope that next time the management here go on holiday they receive the service they provide to give them an understanding on customer service!

Area recommendations
This hotel is approx 3-4 kms from the city centre, you really need a rental car to get around. But Cairns is a lovely place to travel, lots to do and great weather, I highly recommend Cairns.

“Would certainly go back - great pools”

This is a very worthwhile holiday destination. The pools were outstanding. Good facilities including bbq's, tennis and outdoor seating, but the pools are the highlight. Good size, plenty of interesting features and well maintained. The reception desk was helpful but relatively limited in the services they provided. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, but some of the facilities were looking a little dated. The tv was small and outdated and their was no dvd player. This made things a bit tricky keeping children amused. There is also not much around locally so having a car to get around is a must. Overall, we enjoyed the facilities and would visit again.

Area recommendations
Cairns esplanade is worth a look, but the real highlights are a little further afield. Plenty of worthwhile tours to the Great Barrier Reef. The kids also very much enjoyed the trip to the Hartleys Crocodile Farm.
Getting around
Most of the main attractions have a pick up service, but if you are travelling with kids, a vehicle is a must.
Family-friendly activities
Cairns lagoon pool on the esplanade was very good for the kids. Large playground on the esplanade also looked good.

“happy family”

we had a great time and would definately stay again. Only issue was that you are a fair way out from Cairns. Next time would get a car. Room was very spacious and the pools were very inviting.

“Not too helpful”

We had a bus picking us up. We stood in the wrong place. The bus company called the front desk asking them to check to see if we were standing out in front, which was not the place to stand. They did not check for the bus company. We were, in fact, in the wrong place. And we almost missed our connection. Not good. The bus driver said that they have problems with this resort all the time. Problem is that in the morning you meet the busses in front. All other times, you meet them in the back. They should always be in the front thereby avoiding such problems.

Area recommendations
The location wasn't too bad...just away from everything. On the plus side it was right next to the botanical gardens.

“value for money”

I loved the whole idea of the resort, and staff where very helpful, however the were some very big disappointing moments also. I had chosen that particular resort for the spa. I am in the beauty business as was my friend. When i looked at booking appointments, i was highly shocked at not only the hours but also at the fact the spa was also closed on Sundays and Mondays. Luckily, the staff had offered to come in for us if we would book up 3 hours of treatments. I did so and waitedf or a return call for my credit card details to secure. I didnt recieve it, so once i landed i went to confirm and leave credit cards details. Everything seemed ok and we left, on the day of our services however, they were not there and we were offered to come back 90mins later, which we could not as we had to return out car and the times in the afternoon didnt suit either as we had a plane to catch. I was told they had tried to contact me, which was strange as they had my number and my phone was with me all times!!! We also caught the shuttle bus to city center, we told them where we wanted to be dropped off, but the bus driver went right past and didnt even stop in the scheduled either as his wife was on board with their child, he went straight to the lagoon, so we had to walk back, and we paid for that!!!!

“"Not Impressed"”

We arrived early so the room was not ready, that was fine. They said they would ring us when it was ready but never did. The fellow who was booking us in was very, very sarcastic. When we went back around 3pm, it still wasn't ready, I was not very happy about that. About 15mins. later we got the key, when we walked in to the unit the floor was still wet. I feel this is not good enough. I would like to think if we ever went back there again things might be better after this Review.

“Brilliant location and facilities”

Our room was comfortable and clean, well laid out with two bedrooms to suit our needs as one couple and an extra adult. Pools were great, particularly the lap pool. The gymnasium was well set up and the bikes for hire were well maintained- the cost of $20.00 for a full day's use was reasonable. Location brilliant being within walking distance of botanic gardens and the Cairns city centre. We will return!

Area recommendations
We explored the Barrier Reef, Atherton Tablelands, Daintree and Cooktown. If we had more time would have liked to go to Cape York via cargo boat. Bus service is comprehensive and easy to use with very friendly and helpful drivers.

“Loved it, would like to go back.”

Every thing you would expect of a four star resort, the gardens and pools were beautiful, there is a resturant within the complex very reasonable prices and happy hour every day between 5@6 pm, or you could cook your self, two minutes walk from the Botanic gardens which are worth seeing as there are some neat tracks for walking, over all it was a great place for a family holiday.

When to go
August is a great time, 27 degrees, it's just a nice heat not too hot or uncomfortable.
Must see
Kurunda markets, you need to see the Koala, bird and butterfly sanctuarys, it would be cheaper for a family to get a rental car for the day and drive up rather than take the train and Sky Rail. The saturday markets down on the strand are great, if your going to go take your togs and swim for free in the pool on the strand, there are changing rooms and showers, cairns is usually buzzing with people on the week end, grat caffeas.
