“Best Place I've stayed!”
Roydon Beachfront Apartments was one of the most wonderful places I've ever stayed. Close enough to pop into Cairns either by transfer service or the cheap local bus (right next door) the location, directly opposite the beach, is tranquil & peaceful just what you need for a get-away break - either days or a week. The luxury of listening to the waves from my bedroom! Also a smorgasbord of food options within a stone's throw. A basic take away directly next door, all range of restaurants sharing the beachfront from family tavern, italian, thai, pub food or of course seafood. The take away also handy for buying milk, cereal, bread, ice creams etc or a short walk (about 15 mins) was an IGA supermarket which also delivered to Roydon. The apartment itself was extremely spacious, clean and very well set out so that no apartments look at any other apartments. A spa in the main bathroom together with washing machine & dryer, even clothes horses & pegs. Huge cubpoard space in all rooms, an electric safe in the main bedroom, air conditioning throughout, 2 huge TV screens with a huge choice of channels which pleased all ages. A large fully equipped kitchen with "dishwasher" (holiday heaven!). Even a choice of reading books and beach toys if required. The staff - what more can I say, helpful and friendly no matter what time of day, with suggestions if required, couldn't do enough for us. Just a choice of which swimming pool or the beach. I'd be back there tomorrow if I could.
Area recommendations
I would recommend Trinity Beach because it has all you need there, proximity to Cairns itself and to other shopping centres and pick up for all tours. It had the perfect pace and feeling for the holiday I required. Both my kids loved it (12 & 14 years) and didn't want to leave. We all would stay at Roydon, Trinity Beach again.
When to go
When we went in mid July was perfect. Escaping the cold of Sydney for 26 degrees every day in Cairns. Even the nights were warmer than Sydney's maximum day temps. Although a little cloudy a couple of days, didn't detract from the warmth or sunshine.
Family-friendly activities
So much to choose from, we decided to have some relaxing days, wandered the beach, swam, discovered rock pools, played golf etc.
We mixed these with days of tours doing Green Island/Outer Reef day trip, train to Kuranda/gondola back over rainforest day trip and estuary cruise croc-spotting and then visiting crocodile farm one day.
We swapped between eating at little places or getting take away with going out to different restaurants etc each night.
