“Good Budget Hotel - but needs to service rooms”

Hotel was good value for money. Staff were very helpful and the room was good. Unfortunately the hotel did not service my room for the 6 nights I was there (i.e. clean room or replace towels etc). The reason I was given was "the cheap rate you got does not include servicing the room". I looked at my booking and found no reference to this condition, so I was a little peeved. Overall though the hotel was good and I would stay there again, but I would confirm that the room would be serviced next time.

“Great location, cheap and clean.”

We loved the Hides being so central to the esplanade. Everyone one we met in Cairns was so friendly and helpful. We had a superior room in the back of the hotel, very quiet but no view. I think the outside heritage rooms would be pretty noisy. Room had it's own ensuite, aircon and fridge. Breakfast was basic toast and cereal and shut at 9am which we thought weird. It's not the Hilton but staff were very friendly, daily room service and u can't beat the location. Buses out the front door and woolworths across the road. Highly recommend 'Dolce and Espresso' for breakfast and 'the Pier' for cheap coronas ($3.50 all day everyday!) and they also do $12 meal and drink deals which are pretty good, plus a great view.

“Great for the $. Excellent Location”

While its not a fancy hotel it offers everything you would need. In Cairns, you shouldn't be spending a lot of time in your hotel room. It's all about the Great Barrier Reef, rainforest, and the shopping. This hotel didn't have the greatest breakfast BUT the hotel staff was always there to help, in the middle of everything (i.e. shopping, cafes, bars, public transportation). Also it was a 5-7min walk to the Pier for our boat to the Great Barrier Reef. For the amount of money we spent (which was not much) and the limited time we spent in the hotel room, it was perfect for the weekend.

“Affordable”

Apart from the noisy revellers who were still in voice after 3.00am, the location and affordability was very good.

Room wasn't as expected, the pictures from the website are completely different from the actual hotel. Beds were on wheels and rolled all over the place. Poor TV reception. Overall it was clean and quiet. Great location in the centre of town.

“Great location”

Friendly staff, great location! Many conenience stores & restaurants in the area & just a short stroll to the harbour. Breakfast on the balcony is a treat. However, nightime is very noisy because there are many young crowds partying until 4am right underneath the hotel in the bars & on the streets. If you can sleep through a little noise you will be satisfied! Not the place if you want peace & quiet.

“Handy location”

Centrally located able to walk to most city attractions and shops. Room basic but comfortable and clean. Continental breakfast also a pleasure. Did not have my booking entered into their booking system but no problems really just had to wait whilst it was entered.,

We got to the hotel very late and left early. The best was the lovely balcony overlooking the street. It gave us our first glimpse of Cairnes.

“Good Hotel if on a Budget”

Hides Hotel is very centrally located in Cairns. My room was basic but comfortable and clean. Amenities were also basic but everything I needed included coffee-making facilities and an iron and ironing board. Breakfast was included and again while basic - cereals, juices, various breads for toasting and spreads, and tea and coffee, the supply was plentiful and you could have as much as you wanted. Rooms were serviced daily. The bed was comfortable and the a/c worked well which is important for Cairns. Being so centrally located there was a little noise at night from the people in the surrounding street and mall, but nothing that was bad enough to really disturb me. I was trying to keep my expenses low on this business trip while still staying in a clean and comfortable place and this hotel fitted the bill very adequately. Staff were also pleasant, friendly and helpful. I'd stay here again.
