“A charming small town”

Oristano is an easy and quick train ride from Cagliari and a charming small town. The Mariano IV Palace Hotel is a good, reasonably priced hotel, a short walk from the central square, the Piazza Roma. Nothing exceptional, but comfortable; English-speaking desk staff.

Area recommendations

Oristano is a small town, so everything is farily close. Near the Piazza Roma is the best location. Bus system is convenient to use. To get to Alghero, one must take a private coach, with tickets available on-board. Pick-up is on the street directly outside the central bus terminal.

When to go

It's still warm in late September, but the tourist crowds have diminished.

Dining

Josto nel Vicolo, right off Piazza Roma, at Vico Josto, 9 is a marvelous restaurant that serves traditional Sardinian food made with local ingredients. Ask the servers (who also do some of the cooking and baking) for suggestions. Adding to the charm of the restaurant are the pieces of pottery, each different and all made by a family member, placed on each table. Original oil paintings by local artists hang on the walls. Da Gino is also good for seafood, but not as unique as Josto.

Outdoors or beach

For one euro each way, one can take a town bus from the central bus terminal to Torre Grande, one of the most commercial beaches. It is still open in late September. Right off the beach, near the Torre Grande (Big Tower) itself, is a fine seafood restaurant, Aqauarium, with a beautiful view of the beach from its terrace. The cold seafood appetizer offers 6 types of fish in 6 different sauces, enough for a full meal.

“Best cut price hotel in Oristano.”

Good location to wander around town.

“Hôtel simple à 5mn du centre ville”

Hôtel à 5mn du centre ville un peu "vieillot" d'extérieur mais confortable. Idéal pour une halte d'1 nuit ou 2.

“Un peu déçue”

Hotel 4 étoiles mais ne les mérite pas. Le quartier est assez moche, l'accueil était mauvais. Par contre le restaurant très bien ainsi que le petit déjeuner. La chambre était correcte, dommage que dans la salle de bains il y avait une porte de douche en plastique cassée. En revanche la literie excellente. Hotel idéalement placé pour visiter Tharros mais Oristano ne vaut pas le détour.

Le restaurant de l'hôtel est très bien, tandis que ceux à l'extérieur sont médiocres.
