“This was an excellent hotel, I would definately stay here again”
This hotel had all the amenities you could want, we were very impressed with the way it was run. The breakfast and evening meals were buffet style - help yourself, and there was so much variety to choose from. We have been to quite a few hotels, worldwide, and this is the best we have ever stayed in. Although it is near the port, it is a short walk to the town. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
“must return”
the hotel was not as near as we expected & we did not expect border controbetween gibraltar & algeciras. we were tired & disappointed but on arrival at reine cristina we sure were elated & hope to get there soon again. we were advised to get the bus from gib. to algeciras and they do have luggage room, so no problem. going back to the airport we ordered a taxi which was reasonable enough at £20. this hotel is an exellent base to stay & the local buses are good & cheap.
“Excellent Hotel”
My wife and I have booked many hotels through Expedia and read the reviews from previous clients. We also take a look at Trip Advisor, which will put you off leaving the house. The Hotel Reina Cristina was a lovely base to explore Southern Spain and we have no complaints. The room was fine, clean and had a lovely view over the gardens. Breakfast was far too nice and the evening buffet was fine. However, we chose to eat in Algeciras as we like to try different places and meet the Spanish people. Algeciras is a working port and it is not the nicest place in Spain, but it is a great place to stay if you want to explore the region. We also took the ferry over to Tangier, which was great fun and very cheap. The staff in the cafes and bars in Algeciras were lovely and we shared a lot of laughs over our Spanish phrase book. Another great Expedia holiday.
“Would definitely recommend”
This is a really great hotel, with a lovely 1950s feel to it. The rooms are large with private balconies and the wardrobe space is ample... which came in handy as my companion doesn't travel light - a different swimming costume for each of the five days we were there, and he's a BOY! The hotel grounds were absolutely stunning, and the pool was a decent size. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the restaurant served good quality food, in particular the breakfast buffet, which was great value for money (especially on our penultimate day). The two Pacos behind the bar were an amusing double act, and one of them made excellent ham and cheese toasties. There's a decent beach about 20 minutes from the hotel, and plenty of nice restaurants and bars near the town square (about ten minutes' walk). Gibraltar's only half an hour away by bus, and I recommend taking the cable car to see the Barbary apes. My other half was delighted when he ran into some long-lost relatives there, and they shared a bag of Paprika-flavoured crisps. All in all, a big thumbs up for the hotel and the surrounding area.
“This hotel is a gem.”
We were staying at Mijas and wanted an overnight stay to give us a longer day in Gibraltar(five miles away). We remembered this hotel from a visit six years ago. It is full of charm, very close to the centre of Algeciras but an oasis set in acres of its own, well groomed, grounds. Next to Reception is a brass plate with autographs of famous guests of the hotel superimposed on it. There must be well over fifty, including Frederico Garcia Lorca (the Spanish poet and writer butchered by the Falange), Orson Welles, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Becall, Ernest Hemingway and many, many, more including royalty. There are also photos of the hotel and grounds through various times in its history. There is an elegant salon with fountain and grand piano and a comfortable bar with patio overlooking the grounds. Orange trees (in full fruit) adorned the patio. Both the Reception and the Dining room have log fires and there is a separate breakfast room. All in all this hotel has an excellent ambience. We took the half-board option which was excellent value. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and very professional in every department.
“Probably most comfortable in Algeciras”
The hotel & grounds were very attractive and pretty much an oasis in a concrete port town. Algeciras has been hit by the ugly stick & the only reason I stayed there was to get to Gibraltar (easy 45 mins via bus). The hotel is a 10 min walk from the bus station & train station (they are right opposite each other). The room was comfortable, housekeeping was excellent, wifi went on and off but pretty much all over the hotel. Their own internet was expensive. I was half board, the breakfast & dinner were buffets but a la carte is available & had at least something for everyone. The outdoor pool was great at this time of year as it is warming up & I managed to read my book in the peace & quiet and get a suntan.
“Relaxing and accomodating, would go back!!!”
Really enjoyable stay, we went in March and had fantastic weather. The grounds around the Hotel Reina Christina are lovely, it is so peaceful there, if you want a relaxing holiday to just unwind this is a great place to go. It is quite regal in the rooms and tastefully decorated. The food was lovely and a great salad bar. The rooms were clean and very comfortable and nothing was too much hassle if you needed anything extra. There is a little welcome pack in the bathroom for each guest which i thought was a really nice touch. Very good value for money.
“Good value”
Excellent Dinner and Breakfast Buffet. The only downside was that the airconditioning was not working, had to keep the windows open, but sleep disturbed because of noise from some equipment in a building outside. Apparently for a week in the autumn they shut the airconditioning for a week to change to winter heating! The receptionist next morning just shrugged her shoulders - too bad you didn't sleep well.
“Pleasant hotel”
Overall a pleasant hotel, retaining some classic features however in need of some modernisation in the rooms (e.g. better TV with option of films). We planned a few days in Gilbraltar and a few days exploring the local area of Spain so location was fine. The service was good, room kept clean and the staff helpful. The food was fine both for breakfast and evening buffet.
“Can't wait to go back”
Every year I travel abroad with a group of friends. This year we chose Gibraltar and although the Reina Cristina is about half an hour across the border into Spain, it was well worth the trek. Only 2 euros on the bus from Algeciras to Gibraltar. We took advantage of the half board offer and was not at all disappointed. Breakfast buffet was served from 8-10:30am and Evening dinner buffet 8-10:30pm. Because of the flexible times we managed to spend long days out in Gibraltar and around, then to return quite late and still enjoy our evening meal. The hotel was lovely with beautiful grounds.
